Does anyone know the severity of the Pape Sow injury? I understand he underwent surgery to repair a fractured vertebrae in his neck on July 7th but from then on i really haven't heard on timeline of a comeback? be it 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 5 months, a season, two season, his career?
Last time I heard, which was quite a while ago, was 1 full season. This is including if the Raptors made the playoffs, he still wouldn't be able to play.
So what do you think of his chances to return with this team next season? It's looking more and more doubtful, IMO. The team should be fairly competitive after a season. We have a few prospects that may usurp his position. And Colangelo's still got cap space that he could use for an extra player. Ultimately, I see his overall value being higher than what he will be worth to us and he may be trade bait at some point.
I just want Sow to recover just so he can have an active life, regardless of how his career goes for the Raptors. If he sits the entire year out to ensure it heals properly, then I'm happy with that decision.
at the risk of sounding corny- pape sow has already accomplished a lot coming from africa, then going to a div 1 one school in the states on scholarship and now playing in the nba.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">OAKVILLE, ONT. -- The discussion still rings fresh in the mind of Pape Sow almost three months after he thought his world was crashing down on him. "To be honest, I didn't have any idea what was going on," the 6-foot-10 centre for the Toronto Raptors said yesterday. "I was thinking it was my arm, I'd broken my arm. But as soon as I lay down, I started to feel pain through my neck. That's when the trainer told me, 'I think you've broken your neck.' " Sow was a member of the Raptors' summer-league team in Las Vegas in early July. The accident occurred during the team's first scrimmage when Sow, 24, loped toward the basket with typical abandon, collided with another player, then struck his head on a teammate's knee as he hurtled toward the floor. Taken off the court on a stretcher, Sow was in a hospital bed for three days and then underwent surgery to repair a broken vertebra in his neck. Yesterday, appearing hale and hearty at the Raptors' annual charity golf event at windblown Glen Abbey Golf Club, Sow pronounced himself well on the road to recovery and looking forward to resuming his professional basketball career. "I'm just taking my time, trying to get 100-per-cent healed up," Sow said. "Everything's working well. I didn't get a chance to go back home, go to Senegal, but I'm over here, just trying to work my way back to the court." Last week, he saw the doctor who performed the neck surgery and Sow said the surgeon was surprise at how fast he was healing. "I will definitely play," Sow said. "The thing is, it's just going to be when. But I will definitely play, and I think it will be soon, too."</div> http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...rts/Basketball/ It seems everyone's hesitant to put a timetable on his return. Sounds encouraging, though.

It will be interesting to see who the 5th big man will be in the rotation either Humphries, Slokar or Sow if he can play.
