I REALLY REALLLY REALLY HOPE HE SIGNS WITH US. JUST THE FACT THAT HES PUTTING ON A NBA JERSEY MAKES HIM A HERO IN MY EYES, SO THE FACT THAT ITS A NETS JERSEY WOULD MAKE IT SO MUCH COOLER, remeber they were going to sign him befor we got marcus
too soon to assume that, williams can turn out to be a bust, and jay can be still hurt and not that good anymore (doubt it cause even if he lost his quickness he seemed smart)
Hmm, I didn't think we had another roster spot open, unless we bought out JMac already (I'm not sure if we have yet). Either way, this means we can't pick up another big.
This could be both good and bad. Bad because we have enough point guards. Good because we could use Jay Williams for trades.
^When I first thought about it, I would have agreed with you, Carter, but when you think about it, we only have two point guards on our roster, and if JKidd goes down, who's going to back up Marcus? If J-Will turns out to be serviceable-good, then like you said, we can use either him or Marcus as trade bait. He can also slide over to the two at times from what I remember. We already know what kind of potential he has, and to come back from that kind of injury, he obviously has a tremendous work ethic. Plus, he's a coach K alumni. The only negative is, like I said, this is our last roster spot, so we won't be able to sign another big.

Hey, Carter, kind of OT, but how did you change your name and that little thing right below where it normally says "Justbball member"? Thanks.
^I guess it depends on who plays better in training camp and exhibition. My money is on Marcus right now for the time being, after his amazing summer league.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Nets today will announce the signing of guard Jay Williams to a nonguaranteed contract, extending his chances of resuming his career in his home state. Williams, a Plainfield native whose career was derailed after a serious motorcycle crash in 2003, will join the Nets for training camp and the preseason -- although a final spot on the roster is far from guaranteed. "I wouldn't say he's as athletic as he was when he came out of Duke and his first (season) with the Bulls," Nets president Rod Thorn. "But he's a better shooter. I think he'll tell you his court awareness is better. In certain ways, he's probably better than he was then." Williams, a former star at St. Joseph of Metuchen High School who played just his rookie season with Chicago before his fateful crash, worked out with many NBA teams over the summer in the hopes of getting a guaranteed offer. But there has been skepticism about his decreased lateral movement. The Nets instead offered Williams the opportunity to work out at their practice facility during the summer and a training-camp invite.</div> Source
The contract is actually partially guaranteed. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Even though they have the league maximum o f 15 players, the nets will sign Plainfield native Jay Williams to a partially guaranteed contract today. When the team reaches a buyout agreement with Jeff McInnis, Williams’ chances of a roster spot will likely be locked, unless he is beaten out for a job during training camp.</div> Source
you guys are gonna be stacked at point guard! i mean, u have j-kidd, no explantion needed. m. williams, who is one of the most pure point guards out of the rookies (maybe the purEST), and jay williams, he went to duke so he has to be good, lol.
blah I like Jay's game but they still don't have a true inside scorer. They need to pawn off some of their guards or even trade RJ to TRULY compete for the title.
Really isn't big news to me. He's still behind Jason Kidd and possibly Marcus Williams. You really have to wonder how he'll play after a potential career/life ending accident and not playing in the league for nearly four years. I don't know much about his current situation, but I would assume a good portion of his athleticism has suffered because of the accident. I guess we'll have to wait and see but I don't see anything more from this signing than a solid back-up or third string point guard.
Even though he was a Dukie, Jason Williams was one of my favorite players in his time in college, and I really hoped to see him suceed in the NBA. Hopefully this oppurtunity will allow him to still be servicable. I don't think he will be spectacular or anything, due to him losing a great assest he had in atheleticsm (well a lot of it). Hopefully he will amount to something better though.
