When the Nuggets decided to bring back Reggie Evans, I was surprised. They have a lot of money invested in their frontline already, (Nene, Camby, Smith, K-Mart) and the team expects a full season from Nene this year. There isn't going to be a lot of minutes at PF for Evans. The Nuggets have been in search for a SG the last 4 or 5 seasons. There was interest from both Bonzi and Denver, but the Nuggets didn't have the money to lure Bonzi over. Would the Nuggets been better off signing Bonzi Wells with the MLE, or Reggie Evans?
I think Bonzi Wells would have been the much better choice because their shooting guard position has always been their weakness. Reggie Evans isn't going to start and will contribute little to this team while Wells would have started immediately and would finally give the Nuggets a shooting guard they can rely on. Imagine a starting lineup of Andre Miller, Bonzi Wells, Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, and Marcus Camby. That is a very talented team that would go far in the playoffs in my opinion.

Bonzi Wells would have been a better choice for the reasons Shape mentioned. Between Nene, Camby, and Martin, there has to be close to $200 million invested in their total contracts. Between those three Evans would be hard pressed to find legit minutes. Wells on the other hand would make their backcourt solid and should add to their defense and rebounding. I still think the Nuggets would be better off with a pure shooter type of 2 since Vashon Lenard left, but Wells would have definitely helped more than Bonzi. At the time Denver probably thought Wells would re-sign with Sacramento, so they decided to lock up Evans while they had the chance.
No Wells means more JR. I personally am somewhat excited by this news. If JR is working as hard as it's been rumored, he may deserve the starting spot. Also, without Wells, we may be able to rotate in Hodge (if he can overcome the latest infection to his foot) and see what he can do. Plus, this gives us a little flexibility for later in the season if a decent shooting guard becomes available through a trade. To me, getting Bonzi would have been a signing merely for signing's sake (just signing someone so that the fans can't keep bitching about a lack of a 2 guard).

I guess that's one way to look at the situation. Without Bonzi the Nuggets can really develop JR Smith at SG and add another piece to their young core if he works out. I also think the Nuggets will re-sign DeMarr Johnson as an interim solution at SG. He's familiar with the system and should some flashes last year. If DeMarr could ever find consistency in his game, he'd be a solid contributor in the league. The Nuggets do have options to acquire a specialty shooter. Maybe they can pursue Jamal Crawford, Kyle Korver, or Sarunas Jasikevicius with Joe Smith's expiring contract as bait.

As far as Sarunas, I don't think larry is willing to trade him. What about Macijauskas? I'm not really sure what the situation is with him, but he's capable of just tearing it up offensively.

Jamal Crawford is one of the few tradeable pieces they have at a reasonable contract. Isiah's vision features the backcourt duo of Marbury-Francis, which makes Crawford expendable. Speaking to 76er fans, they aren't convinced Korver is the right fit for the team. They seem to be headed in building this team around athleticism with Iggy, Dalembert, and Carney. He's probably the least likely to be traded, but if the 76ers have a lousy season you might see a fire sale out in Philly. Paying close to $100M in salary for a team destined for the lottery is a hard sale. Sarunas has been on the trading block all summer fo the Pacers. The Pacers have Jamal Tinsley coming back to be the starting point guard, and eventually Marquis Daniels could be the player running the Pacer offense.

About DJ, yeah, it's good to know, that he'll probably be re-signed...I'm not sure, but didn't Karl said we're going to have new systems? Even if its true, I like to know, DJ is coming back... Hmm, to talk about any trade, I first want to see, how the big men play, early in the season...I mean, we have so many of them...I don't know who we should trade(gotta know how much we need him, what can we get back etc.)
