<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">It sounds like Chris Mihm is not going to be healthy at the start of training camp and probably won't be playing in the Lakers' early exhibition games. Mihm is still recovering from the July 26 surgery he underwent on his right ankle. The Lakers originally thought Mihm would be ready for camp but his recovery has been slow going. Kwame Brown figures to be the starting center and Mihm will have to find a role for himself once he is healed. This is a contract season for Mihm, so it's a shame to hear it will start out on the wrong note. In other news, the Lakers are going to round out their training camp roster by signing forward Marcus Douthit, their second-round pick in the 2004 draft. The Lakers retained Douthit's rights even as he played overseas and in the NBA Development League. He averaged 10.9 points and 7.3 rebounds with the D-League's Albuquerque Thunderbirds last season. Douthit has played in summer league for the Lakers the past three years but faces the longest of long odds to make the team. If Mihm is going to be out for an extended period, maybe the Lakers decide to add a big man and take a chance on him. Most likely, Douthit winds up back in the D-League playing for a call-up with another NBA team.</div> Source
I like Douthit. I always have remembered him as a very good rebounder, and a pretty decent defensive player. Hopefully Douthit takes this opportunity to rise to the occasion, and show everyone why we drafted him in the 2nd round. I wish best of luck to Mihm, but I don't see him in the Laker's long term plans. I expect to see him gone by next season
wow. Mihm is still injured. I didnt expect this. I like Douthit too. I think he'll help the frontline.
Because originally, it wasn't expected to be that bad. It was a bad injury, but people weren't thinking surgery. It was lingering and wouldn't heal, that's when surgery became his option.
Who is douthtit, I have never heard of this guy. Though I did find his name funny, I doubt he could make the starting line up. sorry i couldn't resist to make fun of his name. Was he an unsigned draftee or has he been knocking about 4 a while?

He never really showed much in his first couple of seasons, which is why he wasnt part of our active roster. But I like Douhit. The guy is a good rebounder and should bring some toughness to our team. If I remember correctly, the guy played great for us in the SPL this year. Anyways, I don't think we should be too worried about not having Chris Mihm. If Kwame continues to step up, it should be no problem. Remember that Mihm was out for most of the second half of the season last year, which was when Kwame really started to produce.
If I remember right, didn't Douthit run into troubles with the law before his rookie season began, which caused him to not make the Lakers roster that year? And he wasn't on it last year either as far as I know. As for Mihm, as long as he gets healthy, I'm happy. He may not be part of our plans for the future, but he is part of the plan for this year. When he gets healthy, he gives us about as good a backup center as you can get in this league. He's solid on offense, a good rebounder, and good shot blocker as well. His only big issue is staying out of foul trouble, and if it wasn't for that, he could easily be a 14/8/2 guy.
Trading Mihm after he has healed is the smartest direction the Lakers could take. Kwame should fill the role of center quite nicely and I see him producing more then Mihm. Also, releasing Mihm will give Bynum a greater chance of developing because he will most likely recieve more minutes. Plus, I never really was a Mihm fan.
