http://www.truehoop.com/free-agents-and-tr...html#discussion Jonathon G is the dude from draft express. I have no problem trading Taft, Zarko and Brown for Ely. Taft is done, Zarko's soft and Brown was a throw in. The draft picks worry me. Hopefully it'll be just 2nd rounders. I saw some clips of Ely and he looks like a big strong dude that can run the floor. He has a little mini jump hook just like Taft and runs the floor. Most importantly he defends the interior. I think trading for Ely is a good idea but I'm just hoping we didn't give up too much.
But... why??? Maybe... it's a money thing and worry over losing these guys for nothing? I still think Zarko could be effective in a run n' gun lineup over Dunleavy or Murphy or all these other guys. Taft... I don't mind so much, but wasn't this guy supposed to be a potential blue chip college player? Brown would have been decent role playing shooting guard that could create... If this guy is wrong... he'll be the Steven A. Smith of predictions. I don't get with the bold statements. That's like Smith saying T-mac will lead the Magic to the playoffs. Baron Davis will not get traded at all-star break from the Hornets. I question whether these guys who aren't really that close to the action really know... Plus, I never heard of that website... maybe it's new?
I think it was GSoM that guessed that Jonathon G is Givony; no one's really sure. It could just be some random guy like everyone else. That and even he said he's not sure as his sources aren't sure. It's just too much rumor at the moment, although I don't doubt that we're still dealing for Ely, I think it's clear that who we're giving up isn't set.
I think the deal is Zarko and the picks, the rest is a throw in to make sure Ely gets paid. We have too many players signed at this point so a 3 for 1 ain't a bad idea. I really like Taft but its come to a point where you have to give up on him. Gets picked 42nd, herniates the disc in his back, takes 7 months off, gets surgery and according to this morning's paper he is going to miss camp due to some illness. My man crush is gone. Camp starts on Monday, why not complete the deal and get him here at the start of camp? Jonathon Givony better be right.
How will the trade work because right now Charlotte has 15 players on their roster, not including Ely? So if they add three that would put them 18. What's the max players per team? I'm not too informed on how waiving, guaranteed contracts, and preseason rosters work, especially after the new CBA last year. So I'm a bit confused here. But I guess it would not be a problem since this seems like legit rumor. Anyway I think it would be a good deal for the warriors. I don't like losing two second rounders. I always thought Taft had some potential but he seems to be injured forever. I like Zarko but he seems to have low confidence in himself. If he had more confidence he could be a really good player, or at least a very effective role player. Brown I don't mind losing him. Also I hope they aren't paying Ely too much and for too many years. His rebounding is terrible but he is definitely a serviceable center that can catch the ball and run. That's all he really needs to do to be better than Foyle. Hopefully he can shoot 50 percent or better because two of his four years he shot 43% which is terrible for a center. Not much of a shot blocker either. Terrible FT shooter. Eh, I changed my mind. Maybe he is not worth it. I think if Taft weren't injured that he could put up the same numbers. Beidrins with exception of his 30% ft and constant foul problems is a better option at center, imo. And I would definitely like to see Zarko in Nellie's system also.

As long as their roster is down to the maximum allowed size by the start of the regular season they should be fine. This trade also confuses me though, I don't know whether to think it would be a good trade or a bad one. On one hand Taft's chances of becoming anything in the league are low, I've practically given up on Zarko since he can't make a shot, and Brown is a low quality backup SG. The two picks (assuming they are second round picks) in addition to those players seems like alot but then again Ely did average 10/5 and you don't get many big-bodied, athletic big men who can defend, block shots, and score on the inside (though his rebounding seems poor). Also you've got to think that our center rotation would be Murphy/Biedrins/Foyle and maybe Ike, though I think he'll get most of his run at the 4. Adding Ely moves Foyle down another notch and gives us an athletic, strong, experienced post defender as well as a competent offensive player who can run the floor and score inside. He's not a dominant big but he brings some qualities that the team lacks and he should bring it more consistently than some of our younger players. He's not as foul prone as Biedrins and he shot a respectable 67% from the FT line last season so his presence may pressure Biedrins to step up and, hopefully, bury Foyle on the bench for good.

He doesn't have the lower body strength to hold position, and gets off-balanced because he always goes for the shot block. A simple head fake and Ely goes airborne and doesn't have the quick second leap to recover. He is better than the three players GS is sending out, but I'm curious to know what type of contract the Warriors plan on signing him to.
I think we warriors fans have not seen interior D to know what it is supposed to look like, maybe? I heard Ely is just solid to decent guarding the post. He is a good shotblocker, but maybe his mental game sucks to the point where he will not make good decisions or he'll just try to go for numbers in the shotblock department. I don't know what intangibles Ely has, but I like Zarko's better. Also, can this guy catch?
