<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Celtics? season ticket-holder barbecue was proceeding nicely this past Saturday at Quincy?s Marina Bay. Sebastian Telfair had just finished his time on the stage and the program was about to move on. The new point guard apparently wasn?t ready to do so, however. Telfair regained the microphone and noted how people were wondering how the Celtics will do this season. He then told the crowd the club will be making the playoffs. ?I guarantee it,? Joe Namath Telfair added. After two years of ?Let?s give the kids time to develop? and ?The important thing is just to improve,? the fact the C?s have put their name on even such a modest goal as this signals that the time to hesitate is through. There?s no time to wallow in the lottery mire. Yesterday, Telfair received only support from his teammates as the club began camp with media day. ?I like that,? said Paul Pierce. ?Put us on the line. That?s how you become a leader. When you?re willing to put yourself on the line and then go out there and do something about it.? </div> Link What are your thoughts? Will Telfair live to regret this bold statement?
i know its been said so many times, but i havent ever said it until now. i think telfair will finally have his breakout season. hes on a much better team than portland, although not a great one. also, this time he has a superstar to help his cause, paul pierce obviously. i could see them being a 6-8 seed in the east, MAYBE.
I don't see any reason for this team not to make the playoffs. I think the most important portion of the statement is his individual play to back it up. That said, injuries have killed this team, and if they continue to, they'll be in the lottery again. One more season and this'll be a team worth watching, in my opinion.
y not? paul pierce coming off his best season statisticaly, telfair most likely aroung 15 and 6, and al jefferson, gerald green, and ryan gomez all most likey to improve this season. theres no reason y they cant make it

As long as you guys don't have a season like the Houston, or Charlotte; there is absoloutely no reason why you guys wouldn't make the playoffs.
I can't believe he's talking like this! This little kid hasn't even proved himself in the league yet, and he's talking this crap! If Delonte West wasn't hurt he'd be lucky to be even starting!
i think the celtics have a good enough team to make the playoffs i don't see why this is so surprising, but then again i thought philly was a lock last year

The Celtics are generally such a reserved franchise, and for a newbie to come in here and pretend like he matters kind of makes this bored Celtics fan a little excited. Especially when the thing he's most confident of is his team, rather than himself.
Ever since Sheed started making guarantees it's like the "in" thing to do. People forget that Artest "guaranteed" that the Kings would win it all last year, so basically a guarantee doesn't mean diddly squat........

Especially since he's yet to play a single game w/ the Celtics. I'm sure coach Doc Rivers wasnt' too happy to hear that either. He needs to stay quiet & let his so called great game do the talking. And.....leave his pistol at home. Ha!
I think it will be pretty tough for the Celtics to make the playoffs this upcoming season. The east will be really competitive this year. Teams like Miami, Chicago, Detriot, New Jersey, and Cleveland are pretty guarenteed a spot. That leaves three spots left for the remaining teams, and I'm sure it will be a tight battle with teams like Orlando, Indiana, Philadelphia, Washington, Miluakee, and Boston
I like the message it sends out. You get the impression that the team is ready to take that next step from developing/rebuilding to competitive.
Telfair is one of my fav. players. But i'm not sure if he'll "lead" this team to the playoff berth. Seeing this season, the eastern conference has changed a lot, and a lot of promising teams are said to make the playoffs as well.
<div class="quote_poster">Squishface Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I don't see any reason for this team not to make the playoffs.</div> I can see up to 10 reasons (potentially)why they won't make it. They're as following: 1) Miami 2) Detroit 3) Indy 4) NJ 5) Cle 6) Milwaukee 7) Washington 8) New York 9) Orlando 10) Toronto All 10 teams are better than the C's on paper.
The Celtics are the kind of team that could easily take the 8 seed with a couple good breaks. Al Jefferson may need to develop a bit more quickly but the C's have got a shot. Plus, Jefferson is on the brink of a breakout year if he can stay healthy. Perkins may need to be a bit more productive and Telfair may breakt or make this team considering the pressure on him. It may have not been a smart move to proclaim such a statement because Telfair is adding more pressure on himself and the C's. Never the less, the Celtics, IMO, can only go up at this point. They have the potential, now it's time to develop.
Crazier things have happened. The Celtics just dont crack my top 8 at this stage. I think they've done too much this offseason, they've basically revamped their entire roster. I dont think they'll be able to mesh for a playoff spot. Maybe next season, but not this season.

That team doesn't look better than ANYONE on paper. I love the pick up of TJ Ford (I think it hysterical that you all thought Charlie would someday be notable), and Chris(t)* Bosh is a marketable player, but that's it and that's all. Colangelo will make this team competitive, but not this year, and maybe not even for another two seasons, judging by how much they've spent on how little they've gotten. They had fewer than 30 wins last season and significantly improved at only one position (starters or otherwise). That one position of course is the point guard spot, by the way. And, are you telling me that the Knicks are better than the C's on paper? Are you kidding. My YMCA team is better than the Knicks on paper. The Bucks look a little better perhaps, but not significantly enought to warrant any mention of a six spot, at least not yet. Indy third? What? All told, that list is a perfectly good reason for the C's to make the playoffs, and an even better reason for Bassey to back up some of this talk. I don't think Bassey will be the best guy on the floor for a single minute this season, but at least the C's will continue to beat bottom feeders like the Raps and Knicks. I mean come on, were you serious? PS - That * I used was merely so I could mention here that this the name I used for Bosh earlier is only what Toronto fans seem to think Bosh is capable of. In truth, he's only a middle of the road, and won't be anything more than that in the near future. The man has been around long enough now that it's time for him to make an NBA-wide name for himself, but with the team he's on, he's incapable of doing so. He is no team's savior, and he never will be.
It's not something out of question, the Celtics have talent, young, but still talent. Al Jefferson is said to have improved, and again like we said before last season could possibly be an impact player. The only teams in the East I'd say are "better" are: Miami, New Jersey, Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago, and Washington. The other teams will be battling it out with the Celtics, so that's Orlando, Milwaukee, Toronto, New York, Atlanta, and Charlotte. I won't say these guys are definately better, but healthy, I'd take Orlando over Boston. I would take Milwaukee too if they weren't going to be without Bogut for at least a month.

Telfair has more balls than brains to say this. I don't think the Celtics will make the playoffs this year.
