Who do you guys think are the top ballhog players from past to present. Players who handled the ball or took more shots than necessary. Players who thinks that there is "I" in the word TEAM. It can be based throught their careers or even a game. You can add your comments following your pick. Here's my list and after that will be your picks along with violent reactions 1. Glen Rice 2. Vince Carter 3. Kobe Bryant 4. Gilbert Arenas 5. Dominique Wilkins
KOBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! But for good reason: He's unstoppable!! Naw but seriously, also gilbert arenas & antoine walker (before he joined the Heat; he never passed the rock when he got it)
Vince Carter? Vince Carter? Vince Carter? Maybe in his Toronto days but he's past that. You forgot Allen Iverson.
Walker. I forgot about him. ANd yes Carter, more during VC's Toronto days. So who's on your list Carter?
Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson are the only players I could think of right now. Lebron will be joining them soon.
I still can't believe people think AI is a ballhog..what ,do people say that because it's the "cool" thing to say? People need to come off that already.

If you watch the Lakers' game which I believe you do since you're Kobe's girl, Kobe hogs the ball when his teammates brick the rim. Sure Kobe hogging the ball sometime but that is what every superstars will do. I believe there is no such thing a superstar who isn't a ballhog. How do you score over 25ppg without having the ball in your hand? Kobe, AI, Tmac, VC, D-Wade, Lebron, Arenas, they are all a ballhog. Also I can't find any quotes from Kobe refers to "I" when having a big night score.

Players have certain roles on a team, that's how teams work. Kobe and Vince are both scorers when called upon, but they can also be playmakers when needed. For every bad shot that they take, they make incredibly tough shots, or hit deep threes. It's not like their fg%s are bad. I haven't really seen Nique or Rice play, so I can't comment, but I wouldn't even consider Arenas a ball-hog. He gets plenty of assists, has a decent fg%, and also has the ability to hit unbelievable shots. My list: -Antoine Walker (on Celts mostly) -Mike James -Melo (could be more of a playmaker) -Magette -Jason Terry (for a pg, doesn't get many assists, and should defer to Dirk more often) -
at VC being a ballhog. Even in his T.O days he was NOT a ballhog and that is based on watching a sh*tload of Raptors games from 99 to 2003 (I've watched less of them as I've gotten older but nonethless). I've said it before and I'll say it again, Carter is one of the most underrated passers in the league and he is often TOO passive in certain situations. If he asserts himself, drives to the basket and occasionally settles for outside jumpers (which he's good at as well), Carter is damn near imposssible. Kobe Bryant I would agree with, but he was more of a "ballhog" during his Laker-Dynasty days, and he was never a bad passer either. He just chose to force the issue more then he had to, often to prove himself or because he felt capable. The Lakers-Dynasty wouldn't have been the same if Kobe hadn't taken over certain games in the 4th like he did. Presently, given the team scenario he is in, I would not label Kobe a ballhog because when all your teammates do is defer to you even when they have an open shot, you have no choice but to shoot the ball into the basket (see Walton, Luke for example). You want a definition of a ballhog? Look up players like Mike James or Antoine Walker (Boston days). It's not just superstars that are "hogs", it's players that BELIEVE they are superstars when they are just above average role players. As for AI, I think it depends on perspective. He's always had to carry the load in Philly, and it shows. The dude's career average is 6.1 apg while having played most of his career at SG, which is actually quite impressive IMO. Even in his highest scoring season (last year at 33 ppg), he averaged 7.4 apg. That is not an easy task. However, it also shows that he needs the ball in his hands ALOT to get the stats he does, but as the franchise player, that is justified. I don't think he's a ballhog, but I can understand why other people would think so. I would like to call Marbury a ballhog, but a career average of 20 and 8 is not an easy thing to do. However, he is quite egotistical beyond belief and I find it hard to respect him since the "I'm the best point guard" comment while having achieved absolutely nothing in his career so far in terms of winning.

<div class="quote_poster">AMS_ice Wrote</div><div class="quote_post"> 4. Gilbert Arenas </div> Well, only because he's the main scoring option for the Wizards. He's a leader for the team who can go all 48 minutes without being tired. He's increased his court vision last season bringing his assist average to 6 and with new offensive threats on the floor Songalia and Stevenson, it may increase.
Well, I dont see the kobes, iversons and arenas as ballhogs. Have you ever wondered why bigmen are never accused of ballhoggin? It's because they dont have the ball in their hands 80% of the time like kobe. They need perimeter players to pass them to ball to go to work. Kobe, AI always have the ball in their hands, why? because they are the best ballhandlers, and they make the best decisions, thats why they are superstars. Now as otehrs have mentioned above me, Mike james and Antoine walker, now they are a different story. Yes, maybe kobe ai, lebron and tmac take unnessasary shots at time, but cmon, they are superstars, they have that innate ability to hit those tough shots, because they are at a different level than everyone else. That's more of shot selection, so yea...

Here is how I look at it. Guys likeT-Mac, Carter, Kobe, AI and them other guys whom people call ballhogs aren't really ball hogs. Guys who you could consider ballhogs are Antonie Walker, Eddie House and Keyon Dooling. The superstar guys I mentioned above, well they are talented and there is a reason why they get to control the ball moreso than anyone on their team and that's because they are the BEST player and are obligated to do so. How in the world can they perform to the best of their abilities without controling the ball. Some people make it seem like these guys control the ball 99% of the game. With a guy like AI it may seem like it because not only is he one of the leagues best scorers and they want him to take the load offensively but they also want him to set others up, so by default he is going to need the ball. In addition at the end of the day these guys are the leagues best so it's not like they are not making the most out of it. It's just that simple. Now on the flipside, guys like Walker and especially Dooling are another story. These guys shouldn't be controling the ball the way they do. Why? Well for the most part they don't make the most out of it and...basically...to be concise...they are just not those level players to be doing what they do.
Ballhog is a label that should be given to players that hog the ball to the detriment of their own team. Players like Kobe, Iverson, VC (not really) may have the ball in their possession for the most of the game, but it's because their team needs that to be successful. My real (unranked) list of ballhogs is: Mike James Steve Francis Zach Randolph Eddie House Antoine Walker
