Took it a couple of hours ago.

Long and boring pretty much sums it up.

I actually thought I did very well, my cousin took it last year (with the new grading system) and told me it was going to be difficult, so i expected the worst.

But after a good night sleep, it wasn't all that hard, especially with my prep.

Now i'm going to sleep.. tired as hell.

I take a PSAT on Wednesday. I hate tests because I get so bored and like MrJ, my mind starts to wonder.

I suck at test and math so I will probably fail that part of it when I take it unless I improve.

You could have went to collegeboard.com, and studied from the past SAT tests.

I hope everyone did well on the SAT's. When I was in school, more of an emphasis was put on the ACT's locally though, and I think the overall trend nationally has been for college's to put more weight on the ACT than the SAT as well because of the problems the SAT had a year or so ago with the scoring mix-ups and also because of the b.s. new 2400 point test the SAT gives. I did, however, take the SAT II's in high school - Chemistry, Math IIC, and Literature. Just don't take these tests lightly, because while they may seem like an inconvenience to you now as high school students, one good test score can erase four years of slacking off in school (as was the case for me), or it could work the other way around and take away any validity from the GPA you've worked for.

My opinion, and this is just based on my own experience, is that most 'bloggers' or 'posters' at online communities such as JBB would do much better on the ACT, because their English and Reading sections tend to focus more on grammar and reading comprehension as opposed to the SAT's focus on vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, and other analogies). Don't take my word for it though, because I've always been one of those really obsessive posters who tries to always type with proper grammar and what not, but if you're like me and have a tendancy to do that, you'll rip the ACT English sections apart.

  7. Generally, Southern and Western states like the ACT more while the Northern and Eastern states prefer the SAT. I also took the SAT today, and I think I did alright. I'm just looking to improve a hundred points or so. Last time, I choked. I was getting 2000+ on all the practice SAT's and then put up an 1820 on the real SAT. With the colleges I'm looking at and my applications due pretty soon, I needed to take it again. Hopefully i raised my score.

I don't even have to take the SAT, the U of Minnesota only requires the SAT so im good since i took it this summer. Anyone know if they one is any harder than the other? or what are the differences, besides what voodoo said about the english part.

    Pakman JBB ITS ON ME!!!

I got a lousy 1590 on the last one I took, and I just registered for the one on May 5th. My college and career counselor said most of the Universities dont even look at writing but math+reading should be around 1200-1300 and thats good.

1590 is an outstanding score! Wait, are you talking about a 1600 scale or the new 2400 scale?

I still say, the ACT is the way to go for bloggers and message board posters, because so much of it has to do with grammar and writing, and typing a lot is one of the best ways to learn how to write properly.

BTW - Has anyone heard back from any of their schools yet? Pretty much every school should have sent out their response letters by now.

I got an 1840. 610 on reading, 570 on Math, and 660 on Writing with an 8/12 on the essay. I think I'm going to take it again because I can probably do better on the reading, math, and essay. Anyone know what an 1840 can do for me in California? I've heard its good enough to get into UC Davis, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and if I'm lucky maybe San Diego or Irvine.

And Run, I don't know that much about the UC's, but what I can tell you is that college admissions are more competitive than ever all across the states. My sister's a brilliant kid who got a 35 on the ACT (out of 36), had a 3.95 unweighted GPA, and was at the top 5% of her class, yet she got denied at all the Ivy's she applied to, as well as Northwestern (even with me as a legacy), Michigan, Berkeley, Stanford, and Duke. The only schools that accepted her were WashU-STL, Vanderbilt, Chicago, and Wisconsin and is probably headed to Wisky because of finances. (Keep an eye out for her, Schaddy. [IMG])

Yeah I know, theres tons of kids and not enough colleges. Ivy league schools are friggen nuts though, you'd need like a 4.5 GPA, great SAT and ACT scores and do a ton of extracurricular activities and still theres so many people from all over the world trying to get in its about impossible. Probably have a better opportunity to get in if you were from in state and a minority, if not then its completely nuts.

It does help that I'm from California though, I'm pretty likely to get into Davis, Santa Barbara, or Santa Cruz I think. I'll also apply to some CSUs since I get some free applications because my mom is "low income" and I'll also apply to USF and Santa Clara.

Are you an underrepresented minority? If so, that significantly increases your chances.

Also, Santa Clara is amazing. I've got a friend on the soccer team who I stayed with a week this fall and it's an underrated party school (not that you'd choose it on that basis - just pointing that out [IMG]). I applied, got accepted, and was very close to going there. The only problem was that they gave me such a weak financial aid package. It's funny, even the Ivy's gave me more aid than Santa Clara, which is a bummer, because I seriously considered going there to play ball as a preferred walk-on before my aid package came in the mail. Can't say enough about their academics though. If you can get the aid to go there, you'll be getting a great education.

Nah, I play for Northwestern University, but we might play you guys next year.

You're walking on? That's great news at a big program like UCLA. Are you a preferred walk-on?

BTW - What position for football?
