i was wondering, melo, is one of the more profilic scorers in the nba with 26.5 on around 48%, but y is he so one dimensional? i remember in highschool, he used to get like 8rebounds per, but both his rebounds and assists well.........suck. but he can make up for them if he gets more steals i believe.

    so, my question is, why?

High school competition is much softer and Melo was probably like a man among children when he was in high school. Now that he is in the NBA against other guys just as good as him, he can't rely on his athelticism and size to grab a bunch of rebounds. I remember Dwight Howard once had around 16 blocks in one high school game so to judge a player by the stats they put up in high school is very misleading.

On another team, he could probably put up about 6-7 rpg, like Richard Jefferson. But look at his frontline: Camby, KMart and Nene, three great rebounders, while RJ has a pretty poor rebounding frontline.

Yea, I think its because he has a lot of good big men around him. Having Nene, Camby, Kmart, Najera, Reggie Evans, Joe Smith, etc.

Think of it this way, I bet theres people in your school that average around 20 points a game. Do you think they could do it in the NBA? Kevin Garnett averaged something like 20 points, 17 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 blocks in high school. High school competition is minor compared to the NBA.

'Melo is on a team with good rebounders as it is. Martin is a solid rebounder, and when he's healthy, Camby is teriffic. Beyond them, Evans is a beast on the boards, as he's one of the best per 40 rebounders in the league, as he reminds me a lot of Dennis Rodman. Also, someone mentioned the Nets, to show how weak they are on the boards, I can't recall the last year Jason Kidd DIDN'T lead the team in RPG.

but he's also 6-8, and is like 220-230. i mean, lebron isn't the biggest player in the cav's, but he still averages 7 rebounds per game. There's varejao, big Z, who r both around 7 ft tall. Does melo need time to improve other stats?
It could happen i believe, since George carl is his coach, and look what happened to his ft%, fg%, and ppg.
Do you guys think that the reason is 'cause he doesnt need to?

    lol.
I feel so stupid with all these ballin wizards out there lol.

Besides having good rebounders around him, Karl also tells him to run the fastbreak as soon as the ball is rebounded. So obviously Melo isn't going to be under the basket very much if he's running the fastbreak. Question answered.

Exactly. Melo isn't wanted getting the boards on defense or offense. He is mainly the 1st person who gets the ball AFTER rebounds. The man isn't one-dimensional though. He is still a very good player for the Nuggets and a solid All-Star. LeBron, yes gets 7rpg, but is also a GOD.

melo has a great post game and a great turn around jumper which makes him so dangerous. i think his rebounding will develop as its needed. although camby has been cleaning up on the boards lately so melo's rebounding isn't really needed as much.

Melo averaging 5 rpg isn't bad or anything, its just that the opportunities aren't there for him as much as for Lebron.

I think if there became a need for Melo to play a greater role as a rebounder he would fill it, but at the moments its not that big an issue.
