I can see him running back to his blog, because it's like a safe place for him. He's with the rest of MLSE buddies and he screens his e-mails for suckups and morons. He's been exposed as an idiot quite a few times on his radio show (usually not about basketball, since everyone talks about hockey/baseball at his timeslot).</div> i have no respect for him. the incident with sherm was really harmless fyi. although, his ego is bigger than he is. i don't know if u remember this but he was in love with vince when he was in town and now vince is some how beneath him.

I feel exactly the same way about him and I get tired of getting crap from Swirsky supporters who love his enthusiasm. Enthusiasm doesn't make him less of a tool. In fact, it makes him more of one. There's hundreds of contradictions, like the VC one, that he's made over the years. Yet, he gets all this praise from hockey nuts who say he's made them interested in basketball.
I'm with you guys on the whole Swirsky-is-a-tool thing, but you just have to love his enthusiasm. Listening to some of the other boring play-by-play announcers, it makes you appreciate having a guy like Chuck around. Plus I hate to admit it, but I kinda like those quirky catch phrases he comes up w/ like "break out the salami and cheese" or "onions, onions!". You also have to love the fact that he truly enjoys doing what he's doing and has fun w/ whoever's his sidekick for the day (leo or jack). As much as we hate all his boneheaded statements, kiss-ass mentality, and homerisms... we can't forget all the good stuff he brings to the table.
I know it's just me who thinks this, but Chuck's "toolness" is one of the aspects that makes him entertaining. I met him personally twice and both times the dude is a class act all the way and goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable. I guess when your new to raptors ball, chuck is a great introduction to the broadcast but when you become more informed about the game you could see the potholes in some of his comments. Overall though, he is an entertaining voice and in my opinion one of the best in the league. You guys gotta cut him some slack.
You nerds need to lighten up on the guy, dont go ripping your hair out because you think you know more about basketball than he does. He's more entertaining then you'll ever be and we have Leo and Armstrong beside him for all the "smartness"
I don't like hypocrites. The VC situation was just stupid. He was even kissing his ass when Vince was average 14 points per game or whatever he was averaging at the start of the 2004 season. And Chutney, what is the "Kobe incident" you're referring to?
AirJordan's a perfect example of the type of people that blindly support Chuck and give you crap for not liking him. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Junoon:</div><div class="quote_post">And Chutney, what is the "Kobe incident" you're referring to?</div> The game where Kobe dropped 81 on the Raps. I think by the 3rd quarter (before LA made their run), Chuck was talking about how the game was basically over and ignored Leo's point that you never know. In the weeks that followed, Leo would give him crap every time he was tempted to say his catchphrase ("break out the salami and cheese, this game is over!") and he got it from callers on his radio show too.

He basically speaks for the fans. This isn't hockey where the everyone watches them, he has to find a way for people to enjoy watching Raptors games and make it fun. An example of this is the detroit announcer, how many fans has he gotten to like the Pistons because of his famous introductions and the sound effects in the stadium. You should be thanking him you blind rat.

About every single Raptors fan I have met hates the way he calls games. They like his catch phrases and stuff but his playcalling isn't all that great. 2. I don't know if people would watch a full basketball game just to hear Chuck scream things like "BREAK OUT THE SALAMI AND CHEESE" and "OH BABY WHAT A PLAY" every 20 seconds while the Raptors are down by 25 points. That's not my idea of "fun"; I'd much rather listen to Jack Armstrong actually. 3. I think you're confusing a arena announcer with Chuck, who is a play-by-play announcer. Totally different jobs.

^^ LMFAO! Yeah man, Swirsky is a nut. Sucks at commentating, and there are times that I actually put the mute button on during a Raps game because of him.

I can understand getting people casual fans interested in the game. But how does being a blatant and hypocritical homer make people watch basketball? Toronto has a big market of mature, intelligent basketball fans. And they deserve a commentator that has an ounce of knowledge and journalistic integrity to back up his "enthusiasm." If that's all Chuck's good for, we should just make him our mascot. lol @ the blind rat comment. What are you, his wife?
lol, I need my fair share of Chuck. I said it! I like hearing the Swirsk and his enthusiasm can improve the game. I think Jack Armstrong and Leo are more knowledgeable than him, but I really don't appreciate Jack's voice, he may be a smart guy, but his voice is too wispy. Leo is an excellent guy, and definitely needs to be paired up with Swirsky to fix any mistakes Chuck says. Leo tends to be realistic and know his stuff, and his voice is well composed. Chuck's lines are funny, sometimes funny because of their lameness, but funny nonetheless lol. PS. I'm not saying anyone has to like Chuck Swirsky, just saying I do appreciate a lot of his qualities.
Well, I'm kinda on both sides of the fense on this one. After watching some other basketball commentators for other teams I do like the amount of excitement he brings to the game. I don't like his overwhelming bias and his retarted catch phrazes. I also wish he knew more about basketball. The ponit Sherman brought up pretty much said it all. I like watching the nationally telecast games on ABC etc.. because the commentary is really good (except bill walton, he can die) they actually make criticisms of both teams and point out things from a coaches point of view. They also don't hesitate to say when the coach screwed up (Sam Mitchell should consider himself lucky there are no raptors games on ABC this year). We should keep in mind Swirsky can't bash MLSE or richard Peddie. He is ultimately under their organization so they're not exactly going to let him say whatever he wants.
Some of my observations: Ford played much better than he did in the Celtics game. He played under control, minimized turnovers and got everyone involved. His shot still isn't there, but did a good job of getting to the basket. He just needs to finish better. Calderon looks like he's going to be one of the better backup pgs in the league this season. He has a lot more confidence in his shot over last year. He was taking them when he was open, unlike last season. His shot still needs a lot of work though. Garbajosa struggled with his shot. Seems like he's adapting well to the NBA game but at times he stands at the 3 point line and relies on it too much. I'd much rather he take a couple of steps in and take the shot from there because his midrange game is good. MoPete is in mid-season form and could start the season tomorrow. No worries here. Parker struggled with his shot again. He's still tentative taking his shots. He's hesitating and at this point, doesn't look like he has much confidence in his shot. Other parts of his game are pretty solid though. Defense is decent and he plays well fundamentally. Tucker played well. He's basically everything that we expected Graham to be last year. He was agressive driving to the basket and got to the line a lot. He's going to be a solid player coming off the bench for us. Jones was impressive also. Much like Tucker, he was agressive taking the ball to the basket. He handles the ball better than I thought. He's showing that he can be a decent option at the point handling and distributing the ball for us. Humphries looks likes he's everything Araujo isn't. He's tough, agressive and doesn't get into a lot of foul trouble. I hope he gets some playing time off the bench this season. I'm sure that won't be a problem if he keeps playing the way he has. A good garbage player, similar to what JYD did with us. Looks like a steal so far. Graham looks like he's trying too hard, putting shots up when it isn't there. It's a positive that he playing more agressive but at times but he's not playing within the team concept. Seems like he's feeling the heat from Tucker, Parker and Jones. It looks like at this point that he will be the odd man out. I don't anticipate him getting a lot of minutes this season. Bargnani was ok when he was on the court. Nothing spectacular but made a couple of outside shots. Needs to mimimize his fouls. Finally, the difference between our benches last season and this season are night and day. Much more depth with a potential lineup of Bargnani/Garbajosa/Tucker/Jones and Calderon.
chuck the child, actually followed through on the threat- he blogged about the run-in with sherm on his october 16th entry: http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/swirsky
Guys lets keep the personal attacks and insults to a minimum. we're all capable of having a healthy debate without going after each other immaturely on topic (thats off topic lol) i personally like chuck as a play by play guy, but dont like it when he's brought into the studio to do analysis the way he was during the nets game. i think he's a great play by play man...and the argument that he's biased isnt valid. ALL home town commentators are biased. did you hear the boston guys in last wednesdays game? have you ever heard the laker guys? the cleveland guys probably go home and sacrifice live chickens at a lebron james alter...they're unbelievable. but thats what you want out of your home town commentator right? i would HATE it if my play by play guy was as boring as the boston guys. he's just way too much of a homer, and hasnt been around the league enough to have good constructive opinions as an analyst...but i think he's a great play by play guy

And I wasn't talking about if toronto has a bad or good basketball market, im talking about getting the rest of CANADA to appreciate the game, even though they dont have a team. lol @ u guys using "homer" too much
