Why is Baron Davis not playing? Is he injured?

The Warriors are losing the game but O'bryant started at center Monta and Wagner at guard and Dunleavy and Pietrus at forward. Zarko finally got minutes as did Foyle but no Diogu so far. Halftime 57 to 48 Hornets.

Warriors win! Nice to see them pull out a game without Baron, Jrich and Murphy our 3 leading scorers. If OKC gets a pro team I am going to have to start routing for them. Unfortunately it looks like they will get the sonics instead of the hornets...

Tomorrow we play the winner of the LAL-LAC game on that's on right now on TNT. I'm hoping the Clips win because we have to play the Lakers in the first game of the season and I'd rather they come in not quite knowing what to expect.

Sorry, I meant to say a lot of us called it.

I think people kind of knew that POB was Murphy's heir apparent at C.

That wingspan of his is freakish.

Biedrins on the other hand did quite well. Though I wish his FG% was better ;-)

    Like shooting 12 for 6? 200% FG%

4 offensive rebounds. That's pretty good. I wonder how many offensive rebounds led to high % points? No assists, so it looks like he was cleaning up the glass and he was catching it and finishing.

We've got about 3 speedy as hell guards, so I'd imagine they probably helped in some way. [IMG]

Man looks like Jannero Pargo really did well this game.

    Wow, some disturbing numbers there:

    -- Team FT% = 61%.
    -- Diogu: 6 PFs in 8 minutes.
-- Monta 5-16 from the field (he's shooting just 36% in the preseason). Also had 5 turnovers.
    -- Foyle...played.

Still, hard to complain about this one, well done considering, I guess. Any word on when JRich is gonna be back?

We Shoulda Traded Ike Like I Said

Let's face it guys. We should've traded Ike to move up in the draft as I advocated before we picked this year. Now it's even worse having Ike to play Don Nelson's game. He is too slow of foot and can't be a man defender in the open court. Ike hasn't shown he can rebound with any consistency either.

Now I don't want to be too harsh on Ike because he is a very good inside player, but he would be better off in the East where they walk the ball up more and run power sets with their taller centers. I think he would have done very well with a team like Indiana, Chicago, Milwaukee or Charlotte.

We would've been better served with someone like Rudy Gay, Randy Foye or LaMarcus Aldridge, all more mobile players who can rebound and defend instead of Ike or POB.

Yet what's done is done. How about trading Ike to Memphis for Hakim Warrick? Warrick is more mobile, athletic and longer than Ike; Perfect for Don Nelson's game. He's been pretty solid this pre-season grabbing boards and scoring some points.

As for POB, we can only hope he will become a solid player who can play some backup minutes. It was nice to hear Nellie thought he should start instead of Andris Biedrins because he would open up the paint on offense.

    Some notes from the game:

I missed the first part of the first quarter, but I got there about half way through the first quarter. My seats were rediculous, they were pretty much at the very top, I guess that's what you get with 10 dollar tickets. So basically I missed most of the 1st quarter. It was also rediculous in how many people were actually at the game. It seemed like an open gym where the two teams were just scrimmaging. The play followed suit. It wasn't a very entertaining game. After watching this game and the first half of the LA vs LA game I am hoping the officiating changes soon. There were 73 fouls and 91 free throws shot in the Warriors/Hornets game and there was a ton being shot in the Clippers/Lakers match. It's not very fun.

The second quarter it seemed to be Zarko's time to play and shine. However it didn't go that way for him. Zarko had a nasty few possessions in sequence where he was losing the ball, bricking everything, getting turnovers, not running the plays correctly, etc. and it was obvious that Nelson was getting upset, especially since there was nobody at the game, so it was easy to hear what Nelson was getting mad at. But for how bad Zarko was playing he stayed in there for the second period. Zarko got some rebounds and was strong in following them with moving the ball up court quickly, but other than that, it wasn't a pretty night for Zarko. Even the PA guy couldn't get his name right. I think he was saying Garparkapa or something.

Ike Diogu got under Nelson's skin a little too. Ike got his chance to shine in the third period. I don't remember the workout scores from before Ike got drafted, but his verticle leap seemed kind of weak. He tried to contest shots and leap at them, but they were pretty weak leaps. Worse yet, this is what got Nelson upset I believe, was he would leap at the shooter or even a pump fake, one second later it is in the air going to the hoop and Ike is completely out of position, as he doesn't seem to have quite the dexterity to redirect himself and he was just not ready to rebound and clean the defensive glass; which lead to a couple of offensive boards for the other team. Ike at this time was also playing Center position with Mike Dunleavy as the PF. So either Ike needs to understand that he is the center and shouldn't be out of position to rebound since, he's being relied on to get all rebounds headed his direction, or he needs to gain better quickness, or he won't be able to play center or maybe even at PF, unless if there are some other bigger bodies on the floor for the Warriors. Ike made his shots on offense though. They weren't by smooth plays, but he is good around the hoop with his shot. And then yeah, he got a lot of fouls. I think it was kind of how the refs were calling it, along with some "rookie" fouls like Andris might get.

POB is long. That is one thing that I noticed soon. He doesn't have the best technique maybe, but when someone was coming to the hoop POB didn't seem like that intimidating of a presence, but he was able to just reach up high and kind of over the smaller shooter(again not the greatest technique) and he was able to make an impact (a bigger impact than say Diogu could have) on the shot which became a miss(for Diogu, maybe another foul). One thing you can't do is teach height, and POB has that. I remember POB shooting a 18 or 20 footer, with somewhat good confidence. I really don't know what POB's game is, but he seems confident that he is capable of shooting the ball with some range. Otherwise he didn't seem like a huge factor.

Andris Biedrins was awesome though. The best plays of the night were two pick and rolls in the 4th including Andris finishing at the hoop. I even think I saw Andris take the rebounds and dribble up the court himself a little bit, on one play. He looked pretty confident too. Maybe he's been working on those skills with Zarko.

Monta and Dunleavy looked good. When they want, they can create quite a few plays. I wouldn't say that either of them would make a great first or second scoring option, but being 3rd or maybe even more likely 4th, 5th, 6th scoring options, these guys are good. We could probably add Wagner and Roberson to that list too.

Finally the game was very ugly. The arena was dead. There was not a lot of energy. Nelson getting this team to run after every shot has been pretty beneficial so far. There were quite a few times, especially in the first half, where after a made bucket, four seconds later there was a Warrior putting the ball back in the other hoop. It seemed like actually some good defense, offensively... There were a lot of turnovers. The Warriors were called for a lot of carrying and some travelling violations. Zarko had his bad sequence, etc. Free throws weren't very impressive either.

But to end on a good note, since there was a win; I thought Monta did a good job on Chris Paul. The stats show this.

what time is the clips game?

I dont think fox thought the lakers would lose to the clips last night.. they had the lakers penciled in as the late game. Which would be televised. I would guess the Warriors will play the Clips in the 2nd game at 7:30 tip off .... just hope it will be televised down here in SD adn the lakers playing in the consolation game in the earlier time slot.

But does anyone know this to confirm?

This source says 4:30 tomorrow vs. the Clippers.

"The Warriors will remain in Los Angeles overnight and will play at STAPLES Center once again tomorrow. The team will take on the Clippers at 4:30 p.m. as part of the STAPLES Center Challenge."
