Marvin "Bad News" Barnes Has anybody ever heard of him? He played in the ABA for 2 seasons. He was a awesome scorer, I remember reading awhile back about his string of 50 point games. However, He was one of the wildest characters in NBA history. Here are some of his wildest moments: He once wrote a poem about DR J: There once was a doctor named Erving, Whose slam dunks were especially unnerving, But when Marvin gets movin', And the crowd gets to groovin', For the doctor a hospital bed they'll be reserving. One time he showed up to the game 5 minutes before tipoff wearing his uniform with a full mink coat eating a Big Mac and fries. Didn't effect his game much though he still scored over 40 points. He was reluctant to board a flight scheduled to leave Louisville at 8 a.m. and land in St. Louis at 7:59 a.m. because he said "I ain't goin' on no time machine."
He was a great talent, all right, but he ruined his career with drugs and off-court trouble. He once actualy admitted to snorting cocaine on the bench, while sitting there during his Celtics era. He earned his nickname "Bad News" by assaulting a colllege teammate with a tire iron. Ouch.
Never heard of this character, I wonder if Matt Barnes is related to him? Sounds like one of the many free spirits from the ABA days.
