<font size="4">Pietrus is 'happiest guy in NBA'
Two of the reasons: Nelson's style and a French connection</font>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"><font size="2">(10-21) 04:00 PDT Los Angeles -- As soon as Mickael Pietrus heard about Boris Diaw's contract extension, he pulled out his Sidekick and sent his fellow Frenchman a congratulatory text message. </font>
<font size="2">Diaw, after all, was the proud owner of a new five-year deal worth a reported $45 million, and he and Pietrus have shared a basketball history nearly as rich. </font>
<font size="2">They were teammates for four years for France's Pau Orthez before jumping to the NBA together in 2003. Both were first-round picks and both still play for the French national team. </font>
<font size="2">But while Pietrus came out as the more heralded of the two -- he was drafted 11th overall and 10 spots ahead of Diaw -- it's the Phoenix guard/forward/center whose soaring NBA stock culminated in Thursday's lucrative deal. </font>
<font size="2">Pietrus has until Oct. 30 to work out his own extension with the Warriors, but that scenario is shaky at best. Despite being labeled by coach Don Nelson as one of the top players in training camp, neither side says it is anticipating a new agreement. </font>
<font size="2">"There have been no discussions concerning an extension for M.P.," Pietrus' agent, Herb Rudoy said via e-mail this week. "It is really up to the Warriors, and M.P. is willing to wait until next summer." </font>

I'm not really too sure, but do we have enough money to resign him? What is the difference between resigning him and giving him an extension?

Extension just extends the current rookie scale contract.

Re-signing him gives him a new contract with a higher base salary.

We have very little money to re-sign players if we intend to keep whoever we draft next or guys like POB, Biedrins, Ellis and Ike or Taft.

He won't be resigned. If we do theres no way we can keep Ellis, Biedrins, Diogu

Hopefully Pietrus explodes this year, then we package him and Foyle for an expiring contract!

If Pietrus blows up, Dunleavy will be gone...

As long as Mullin is in charge that (our dreams) won't happen.

What is your reasoning behind this?

In Nellie's system Dunleavy is playing "Point Forward" or whatever you want to call it, while Pietrus is playing defensive forward/guard basically. Those are two different roles and positions. I do not see how Pietrus playing well would lead to Dunleavy getting traded. Pietrus cannot take over Dunleavy's role, and Dunleavy could not take over Pietrus's role.

As far as I'm concerned I think Pietrus is more expendable than Dunleavy, even if Pietrus blows up, especially because Nellie has tendency to play a lot of guards, and he can easily move J-rich to SF and start Monta at SG. I think Dunleavy's role is tougher to replace. Though there is a a chance that Nelly's system fails because Dunleavy is not playing well, then maybe Dunleavy would be traded, but that will have nothing to do with whether Pietrus blows up or not.

Personally, I can't see Pietrus becoming an efficient shooter or scorer.

Plus Dunleavy is already signed to huge contract while Pietrus is not. Because of cap problems it would be easier financial decision to not resign Pietrus.

Don't you think it would be extremely hard to dump his salary? To me, both Foyle and Dunleavy's contracts are basically untradable, unless you count receiving similar crap contracts. I really don't think Dunleavy would be tradable even if he blows up this season. Dunleavy is a natural 3, but he can't play 3. And, it would be extremely hard to find a team willing to stick Dunleavy at 4. And, we saw what kind of value Murphy got when he was being shopped around.

I don't know two years from now on, but right now, Cohan definitely doesn't want to pay luxury tax, because we are struggling to add two minimum contracts. Resigning Pietrus would be a miracle regardless of what he does during this season...

I guess I am being optimistic and I dont like Dunleavy. I would much rather see Pietrus start at the 2/3 and Diogu playing the 4. My ideal lineup at this point would be Baron, Jrich, Pietru, Diogu and Biedrens.
