He wasn't making shots and he wasn't doing anything else. 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks in 12 mins. I'll give him a pass since this was his first game and he is probably still not 100%, but still my confidence in him continues to dwindle.

I haven't had much faith in Redick since he was picked in the draft.

I mean, Tim freakin' Duncan only had 3 points last night. These games are meaningless and a waste of time, not to mention that it's Redick's first game on a professional level, as well as his first game after suffering an injury. Don't even try to put any weight on it - none at all - because it doesn't indicate anything about his game.

I know it's preseason and his first game, which is why I'm giving it a pass. The points will come, I'm not worried about that. What I have been worried on is if he isn't hitting his shot, can he help us pull a game out?
well he cant do worse...im sure he wasnt forcing anything, hes just trying to get back into gameshape. by the time regular season rolls around he'll be alright

I truely hope that JJ Redick becomes a very good player for the Magic, right now I'm just skeptical.
i might be wrong, but im pretty sure that i read a quote from the coach saying that he wasnt expecting jj to do much. he just wanted him to get out there, move around, get some contact, and simply get the feel for being in a game again. he hasnt played in a game since last march, so he'll probably start to improve again as time goes on.

This is the most meaningless time of the year, almost less intense and less important than full-court practice scrimmages. You say you give him a pass, but then you go on to say your confidence in him is dwindling. As for whether or not Redick can help you when he's not hitting his shot - have you ever seen him not hitting his shot? I could understand skepticism of a player like Tyrus Thomas or Saer Sene: a raw, athletic talent with little actual playing experience and no record of accomplishments, but we're talking about J.J. Redick, one of the most decorated players in college basketball history. I know you're a former Terps fan, but you've really got to embrace this kid. He's unathletic, slow, has a bad back... almost sounds like I'm talking about Larry Bird here.
I can understand the fear of having a slow undersized shooting guard, especially if his talents don't translate outside the Duke program or college style of basketball and college competition. Mostly likely, he's going to struggle defensively like Morrison could this year against quicker players. But luckily, there is a need for guys who can shoot because I'm convinced a lot of our players in this league can't shoot well compared to the Europeans. It's why basketball has made such a big deal about shooters ever since we've failed to do anything significant in the Olympics against the Europeans. At least the last time we won Gold we had Ray Allen or Allan Houston or whoever, players that could shoot (as well as bigger inside presence). The difference is those finesse guys are a lot more athletic and slightly taller. They are geared for the NBA game and they can shoot. Guys like Bird and Reddick will have to become shooters like Chris Mullin, Reggie Miller, and Larry Bird.
Redick just needs time to adjust to playing a game again so he can dominate. LOL I don't know bout that but just go out there and make a couple of buckets.
Voodoo, do you see JJ Redick being an effective starter anytime in his career with Jameer almost assuredly getting locked up long term and Hedo has I believe 4 more years on his contract already locked up at PG/SF starting spots? I know he could be really good off of the bench and give us a spark playing alongside a defensive specialist(Bogans/Ariza). I think he could be a good player, I just don't think it is likely he becomes a good player in Orlando. I say this because we have a similar player in Pat Garrity(in the fact that they only reason he is in the game is to shoot), but when he is in the game, we just flat out don't give him the ball. He plays 15-20 mins and gets 2 shots, which is one of the main reasons why I'm skeptical that we will even get JJ the ball enough. When JJ is in the game, I want him with the ball and shooting a bunch. I know they play different positions, which is why I think JJ will get more shots than Garrity, because he is supposed to be on the wing more, but I really don't see him getting the amount of shots that he needs. The only time that the Magic really gave 3 point shooters enough chances was in the Shaq era with Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson draining shots from downtown. This will be Orlando's 17th season and basically we've only had 2 really effective 3 point shooters. Mike Miller excelled in Orlando because he was able to penetrate. I'm just wondering, what are your expectations for JJ Redick this season and for his career?

He did get a personal foul though, so he got on the stat sheet.
