<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In the last game of their Timberwolves careers, at least for the 2006 preseason, neither Paul Shirley nor Tyrone Ellis got off the bench Saturday night against Indiana in Moline, Ill. And that's pretty much how their auditions went with Minnesota prior to their release Sunday. In the Wolves' six tuneup games to date, Shirley played eight minutes and Ellis played 15. So they didn't play themselves out of jobs as much as they apparently never practiced their way into them. The two unsigned free agents had played well enough for the Wolves' summer league entry in Las Vegas to earn the October invitations. But they were around mostly as training-camp bodies, with their best opportunities coming in practice. The cuts left Minnesota with 15 players, the roster maximum for the regular season. Fourteen are under contract for 2006-07, with veteran forward Vin Baker as the only remaining free agent. Twelve days ago, coach Dwane Casey said that Baker had an inside track on the final roster spot, barring a trade or the pursuit of someone else's released player. </div> Source Shirley has to feel terrible about his chances of making the NBA now. He couldn't beat out Vin Baker. Back to the blog for Paul.
I dont think either Shirley or Baker is worth crap, but if I had to pick one to help with a team trying to get back to contender status I would take the guy who has the expirience in the league. Shirley's played what like 20 games in his career and gets manhandled everytime he plays inside. Thats not exactly what the wolves need.
