I opened up my SLAM magazine this past weekend to find a huge NBA preview and a 'Rookies Most Likely To...' article predicting which rookie would fit for each category. I browsed through the categories for Redick and his named only appeared in two.

Rookie Most Likely To Fade Into Obscurity:
31% of SLAM staff chose J.J. for this category. He was the leader in this category by a long sho. The second closest rookies recieved only 8% of the votes.

The only other category where Redick's name was mentioned was...

Rookie Most Likely To Unfairly Get Bench Splinters 8% of SLAM staff chose Redick for this category. Leaders in this category were Maurice Ager [31%] followed by Quincy Douby [15%].

    Thoughts? [IMG]

I don't think that he will be bad, however, it's going to take some time for him to get good. I do think that Slam is underrating him. I think he COULD be a Mike Miller type of player in the future, IMO.

How is his game remotely like Mike Miller's? They've both got sweet strokes, but other than that the only similarity the two have is the color of their skin. Miller (who I coached with for M33M this summer) is an athletic 6'8" swingman who can create off the dribble and simply overpower his defenders. That's nothing like Redick's game at all.

As for the article, I've elaborated on my opinion in previous threads, but just to clearly put my opinion on the record, I don't think that you can dominate the collegiate level the way Redick did (#1 all-time in ACC scoring) and not amount to anything on the next level. He's going to be special.

I agree with Voodoo. He's not going to "fade into obscurity" unless maybe he gets injured. Still, I think he's going to be effective for us. Only time will tell.

People really hate this guy. Its like TO hate. I feel bad for him. I meet him this past weekend at the Magic Season Ticket Holders event and I talked to him for a couple mins. He was asking about my cell phone and I was joking with him about him steal my number. The guy is human, I dont understand why so many people hate him. I hope he proves everyone wrong. By the way I didnt mean people on this board specifically I meant in general.

Time will tell with this guy. It also depends on if they use him right and make sure he gets a solid screen or someone to draw defenders away from him. I think he'll definitely be better than Trajan "Alaskan Assassin" Langdon. Maybe JJ will be a much slower version of Cuttino Mobley.

    White boys own the NBA.

    Stay mature guys.

Anyways, I just thought this article was interesting because it shows how many people don't expect J.J. to amount to anything. It's pretty intense how much hate this guy gets but hopefully he can prove the haters wrong just like he did at Duke.

That's the Duke backlash, and he's always had that ability to get under people's skin. As long as the Magic use him correctly, letting him catch and shoot off screens and allowing him space so he doesn't have to drive much, he's going to be a productive player. He'll add a dimension of deep shooting to the Magic. He'll probably never be much more than a marginal starter or 6th man, but he won't be awful. Guys who shoot that well don't just fall on their face.

He was just irritated by the fact that somebody just said something he stated first. No big deal.

Hey Chuck, did you know that the Magic have a white 3 point shooter at every position?

    PG-Travis Diener
    SG-JJ Redick
    SF-Hedo Turkoglu
    PF-Pat Garrity
    C-Darko Milicic

I see Redick being the next Luke Jackson.....they both have a very bad problem with their backs. It will be a problem for him off and on for a long time. Redick will be a shell of what he was in college, plus Dicky V hyped him so D*MN much it was so D*MN annoying. Should of gotten Sefolsha, Carney, or Brewer IMO

They do. Well, owners that own NBA teams.[IMG]

Anyways, Redick should do decent for us prob. coming off the bench for his whole career though.

Redick could turn into the next LeBron James.[IMG] Just Kidding.

    Cute

Can you change the rules of the Magic elimination game, by the way? Make it so only 3 people have to post before you can post again. So we can hurry this up before the season.
