<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With Richardson injured, Ellis having on-and-off nights, and Wagner still working his way back from colon surgery, Roberson has moved into prime position to claim the Warrior's final roster spot -- if not a small place in Nelson's rotation. "Still evaluating" is the official word from vice president Chris Mullin on the likelihood of Roberson making the team. Mullin has until Monday before he must finalize his roster, and he plans on waiting until after Thursday's final exhibition game to make any moves. That said, he acknowledged that Roberson's play would get noticed in any training camp. If the Warriors keep the maximum 15 players, they can sign either Roberson or Matt Barnes without going into the luxury tax -- but not both, essentially rendering the rest of the roster immune from cuts. They also can wait to comb the waiver wire once other teams begin making their final releases. Roberson isn't fazed by the odds. "My biggest thing coming in was trying to get in an organization that believes that I can help the system, help them win," said Roberson, who played with Memphis last season. "All I can do is what I can do. Go out there and play hard. I got more game to impress them, and I think I've been doing that." </div> Source
Roberson is my hero. Hey may not save this organization singlehandedly, but it's a team sport, and he's just being counted on to add to the scoring, pass the ball some, play defense as best as he can, and just be an effective combo guard over some liabilities like Wagner (defense), McLeod (shooting), Monta Ellis (decision-making ability, shooting, and handle), and Baron Davis (shooting and health). Roberson's preseason consistency has been remarkable. We have some problems with our guards when it comes to catch and shoot or shooting off the dribble... But then again not many current point guards are that great of a shooter, except for Steve Nash... Marbury is not that great all-around shooter and he tends to miss when the shots count. Billups is a good shooter but can be up and down. He means more in the 4th quarter than he does 1-3 and he's more important in playoffs than regular season. Kidd never could shoot. Andre Miller has limited range and he's not a star. Jason Williams has problems with consistency and he's not a star. Chris Paul can shoot, but he's kind of short. Raymond Felton is having shooting problems... Mike Bibby is a good shooter, but he's borderline all-star material because he's not quite the defender or playmaker that all other all-star guards are.
I figure Roberson earned a spot-and tonight-Barnes probably got the crucial edge over McLeod. A short term ankle twist wont change things-Roberson seems to be a money guy-and we want lots of that.
If Robertson's injury is bit serious, I don't think we will keep Robertson. And, as much as I want to see both Robertson and Barne being kept, unless we open up a roster spot via trade, I just don't see us keeping both players. If we keep both, we will have to cut one guarantee contract, and by signing both, we will have to pay luxury tax. I just don't see Cohan agreeing to lose millions of $ just to keep one inactive player...

Don't worry, I used to think it was Robertson also. I'm not used to saying the name Roberson.
On a side note, Matt Barnes had 14-6-3 today on 6-8FG, 2-2FT. These two need to get signed. Roberson is probably the best jump shooter on the team next to Richardson and Barnes is a hustling SF that rebounds.
Well I'm glad because we needed somebody to replace Fisher and there aren't a lot of great shooting guards in this league that are over 6'4. There's just too much of a void for quick 6'5"+ players that can shoot and virtually posess all the skill of a lead guard. Look at 6'4 Jrich. He's about as tall or taller than Dwade, but doesn't posess the quickness, ballhandling, or shooting skill (as of now) of a player like DWade who is a true shooting guard in a 6'4" body. To me the difference between 6'4 and 6'6 is minor if the 6'4 guy has quickness + wingspan of a 6'10 player with average wingspan. Jrich is that guy who has the measurements of a 6'11 guy with the hands to match, but unfortunately the feet of a 6'11 guy that moves like a 6'11 guy. If Arenas was taller, he'd be my ideal shooting guard. Absolute slasher that can also shoot in the clutch, pass some, and finish upclose.
CR2, I agree with you about D-Wade and J-Rich (except J-Rich is a much better shooter), but this is why I love Don Nelson: We don't have a D-Wade or Gilbert Arenas-esque 2 guard who can handle the ball with the best of them, get to the line at will, shoot FTs very well, or take over a game, but we have a PG who can. Nelson has already changed Baron's game in the preseason (a la Dirk Nowitzki last year), using him as a weapon to score not just a guy who handles the ball the entire shot clock. Baron is averaging 2.5 3 pt attempts per game this preseason and shooting 50% from 3, and even better, he's shooting 57% from the field and 88% from the FT line getting to the line 6.25 times per game. Nelson is putting Baron in a position to succeed and to take full and total advantage of his skills and physical tools. There is no PG in the league who can stop Baron in the post, all you have to do was have Dun handle the PG duties and Davis is all of a sudden the Nowitzki of PGs; too quick for a 2 guard, way too strong for a PG, and is an absolute beast in the paint. Now that he's shooting FTs well and getting high percentage shots the sky's the limits for him and it's all because of Nelson who knows how to get every last bit of production from his players.
Yeah, it's because Nelson is the man with small ball, which I know I will hate, but I will love at the same time because of all the scoring
I think CR2 is going to have to change his name to Barnes Rules. He seems to be the 3rd coming of Tom Tolbert.
Both Barnes and Roberson got signed by the Warriors. However the Warriors will have to get rid of a contract or trade to free up space before the contracts become guranteed in Jan I believe. Or else the Warriors will be a few G's over the luxury.

Najera, Boykins, Cardinal, Jerome "The Junkyard Dog" Williams.
Andres Nocioni. Anderson Varejo. Ginobili. We need someone like that. Roberson? I'd love it but I still wonder what happened at Florida with him and Matt Walsh.

One of the top ranked and probably recruited, but he didn't really grow up to be a point guard like Raymond Felton. If Roberson was 6'4 or 6'3 maybe that would matter more to scouts? I thought actual measurements had him at 6'1 or 6'2. And we're also assuming that these players have more than the average wingspan. The only time scouts look the other way is if it's a big dude because those are hard to come by.
Roberson showed he can deliver when the pessure is on-and in his case-it wasn't the other teams in pre-season-it was him as an excess "combo G,when Wagner had already impressed-and Barnes-McLeod were insurance at thin spots. Nellie tested Roberson-and Roberson showed that he has good stuff. It appears-so far..he can replace the good stuff we got from Fish-minus some of the negatives-and at way lower cost. Some nights Roberson will be the hot shooter-others it could be Ellis,or Wagner. Most nights it will be one of them who is cookin',it adds up to a second 5 that can hold it's own. Stuff on my wish-list,even before Nellie's comeback, were we RUN...we use the whole roster...we polish up,perfect, improve, the guys we have on the team. Those things seem to be part of Nellie's agenda-and I think will payoff nicely. Last season was terribly frustrating. I remain convinced that team should have been over .500 with room to spare. Nellie is perhaps a bit overcommitted to the smallball game, but it is a trend in the league now,and he's just about the guru of smallball. I think-and hope-he is pragmatic, won't get caught up in trying to take the small thing to the max,rather-use it as a tool, but use all the tools. Our last 3 lotto picks were big men. We have more good bigs now than we ever had in Nellie-Act1. Integrating the Small-fast-quick part...and the size-power part will be what gets us the next step up.
We'll have to try anything at this point. It is pretty sad that we're trying to achieve the Run TMC success. High scoring, fun to watch, but it didn't get us anywhere near a ring. First things first, I guess. Still, I'm not sure if Mullin has the brains and know how to make those series of moves which will propel us from mediocrity into at least where the Bulls are now. The Bulls used to suck worse than us and they climbed out even though they wasted two picks on high school centers which they didn't keep anyway. Who did they wind up with? A hard nosed euro mvp at SF. Deng who is decent glue player. Kirk Hinrich who is a great combo. Ben Gordon, another great combo. A good hard nosed coach who knows exactly what he wants and doesn't have to learn on the job and can get the GM to do his bidding. They found replacements for Tyson Chandler. They signed a free agent with the available money by the name of Ben wallace. I hope Mullin knows what to do when the time to trade Dun and Murphy comes up... He can't just sit there and say, "it's a playoff team and that it's good for chemistry to keep them." He's got such poor vision of what a team is... Like Run TMC, he doesnt know the word defense or "center". So it seems like we'll repeat mediocrity and never get close to second round of playoffs if we get there... i want to go further after we make it the first time, not be the 2003 - 2004 Sonics where we show up once.
We've got to make the playoffs before we can start talking championship. Think about the last 10 years, out of 30 teams how many have won? Bulls, Spurs, Lakers, Pistons and Heat. That's it. Centers? I think the Warriors have something going with Biedrins and O'Bryant, lets let them grow.
<div class="quote_poster">philsmith75 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">We've got to make the playoffs before we can start talking championship. </div> This is where I disagree. We've got to have a .500 season before we start talking about playoff's. The west is tough.
