<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES ? When forced to protect a lead this season, when defense is most paramount, it's conceivable Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy will have Quinton Ross and Shaun Livingston on the floor at the same time.

Neither player is a reliable scorer, but Dunleavy considers the two his best perimeter defenders.

And because Dunleavy's philosophy is to lead with the defense, it would figure he would have Ross and Livingston in the game with a lead to protect.

Livingston is 6-foot-7 but has the quickness to be able to stay in front of smaller, quicker guards. His long wing span helped him make a steal in the final minute of the Clippers' 97-89 exhibition game victory Wednesday night over the Portland Trail Blazers.

The 6-6 Ross is wiry but has displayed a knack for guarding players bigger and stronger than him.

"When you have that kind of size and potential in the backcourt, it lends itself to a lot of good things out there," Dunleavy said before Wednesday night's game.

Dunleavy said he felt last season that Ross was on the threshold of making the NBA's all-defensive team. Dunleavy said Livingston is a good defender who will get better.

Both are beginning their third seasons in the league, and Dunleavy said they are ready to contribute more offensively this year, too.

"Q has been more aggressive and more confident in what he can do," Dunleavy said.</div>

Dunleavy said about Shaun as a rookie that in a few years he'll be one of the better guard defenders in the league, and he's definately moving on that part. Outside of popularity, Ross could've made the All-Defensive team last season. I wouldn't say Billups actually defender better than Ross did.

Ross is one of my favorite players in the league, I hope he gets his due. Definately an All League defender, he got 1 vote last year
