I'm not sure what your worked up about. Michael Smith said that race was as issue in hiring NFL coaches, but the issue wasn't as "black and white" as it's sometimes made out to be. Smith said that while it was disappointing that there are no new minority head coaches this year, he also said there were some qualified caucasion coaches that have been passed up as well, like Jim Bates, who just about everyone on this forum would like to see get a head coaching job someday soon. Smith's point was that it isn't as simple as white guys hiring white guys, but who you know personally plays into hiring. Smith even pointed out that it wasn't like one company hiring eight white guys for the same level job, but eight different companies hiring for one position. I thought Smith wrote a pretty reasonable article that suggested that the NFL is making progress. Like it or not, racism still exists and needs to be addressed and I would rather hear from someone being reasonable and objective, like Smith, than some idiot that finds racism around every corner.

Steven A Smith is the man who sees racism around every corner. THe reason why, he is a racist. **a distinct sound of a can of worms being opened is heard in the background*

Steve Smith from the Panthers, you are referring to?

This was written on ESPN.com by Micahel Smith.

I wouldnt think that racism is a big thing. If a candidate is suitable they will be hired, Look what lovie smith did with the Bears this year. Anyone Offensive/Defensive Co-Ordinator that has been around the league has to be an intelligent guy, this is a thinking man's game.

I agree with what Randy Moss said. He said on the radio today that if your a coach your a coach. It doesn't matter if your black or white or whatever. If you can coach you can coach. That was his take on it.

I think what the NFL should be proud of is the number of African Americans getting re-hired. Herm Edwards got a second job. Tony Dungy got a second job. Denny Green got a second job. It looks like Art Shell is in the running for the Raider head coaching vacancy so he might get a second go around with them.

There are many good coaches who didn't get a second chance this season. Mike Sherman to name one.

i personally think that Donnie Henderson should have been considered more carefully by the Jets, who were intent on Mangini from the start. There are a lot of qualified African American coaches who are very qualified at the moment and i think all of them will get a job sooner or later. i like how Michael Smith wrote this article, i gained a lot more respect for him, as DD said i hate when i'm reading or listening to a guy who finds racism at every corner

    Where did you see that?

I thought Art Shell was/is a fantastic coach. He has a pretty high up position within the NFL right now at the front office. I'm happy for him, but I thought he never should have left coaching...

Heard it on the radio. There going to interview the Steelers offensive coordinator after the Super Bowl and it'll probably come down to those two.

Kansas City has a new minority head coach. While he has been a head coach in the past, I believe this will be his first NFL job. [IMG]

OOOOH! that won't go down well with the Jets fans on here and everywhere!

They actually do look good for next seasn, Larry Johnson only started like 10 games or something and had almost 1,700 yards.

If they have a good draft they will be a playoff contender
