There is also 10x worse racial slurs than monkey out there which he could have used. Why would a racist call the opposing team member a racial slur and not his own team? That makes no sense at all. Do the "white" Magic jerseys make him change his mind? I just can't see that guy being racist or a bigot especially when I saw him on the news. He has held parties for the Magic, and Dwight was there as well as plenty of other African Americans. My fact still stands though, it would be like a black racist hating whites and yet he loves going to hockey games. No offense to all the white guys in hockey. </div> there are worse racial slurs than being called a monkey, but being called a monkey must hurt. just like someone else said (i think it was skater) mutombo was born in an african country if im not mistaken, so being from an african country rather than being an african american (big diffrence) could of been the reason for the slur against mutombo and not dwight. especially since monkeys are commonly found in africa, and hes african.(pretty sure thats were the insult came from to begin with )
Just because he likes the NBA it doesn't mean he's not racist. Calling someone a monkey and making monkey faces is racism. You can still be racist and watch a sport where the majority are blacks. The "fan" was lucky he didn't say this to Ron Artest. Deke did not over-react.
The fan was either mexican or black. But i think the real reason why he did that was just to shake Deke up and ruin his concentration.

Not to piss on anyone, but my question for those who are semi-defending/justifying the man (I by no means hate you or anything) I wanted to ask...if he didn't mean anything to be rascist why did he choose "monkey" I mean you can say that he didn't plan to say monkeys and he wanted to just say something to get in the players head and he wasnt thinking, but honestly if I'm not thinking and I want to piss someone off monkey isnt a name that would really come to mind. I would have to plan something to call someone a monkey, it just isn't one of those terms people use as insult. But yeah thats all im wondering.

The guy called him a freakin "Monkey". Theres only one word more disrespectful than that, and niether should ever be used on or off the court.

Bill Worrel pointed out "Look at the shirt he is wearing" Matt Bullard was like "He should've been thrown out the game just for wearing that shirt" or something like that. But, calling him a monkey is racist, it doesn't matter if Dwight is african american too. But Deke, obviously has an accent and the way he talks really does make him seem like he is from Africa.
<div class="quote_poster">Carter Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">What if that guy called your race monkeys? I was asking the guy who was defending the dude why did that kid pick that word of all words when in the spur of the moment he could've picked any other word. I was merely pointing out that he had to have planned saying something like that because monkey isn't really a term we think of in the spur of the moment. So read my post before accusing me of defending the kid.
There's too much weight carried with that term for me to believe the fan, in this case. He may be watching a game with many African-Americans, but Mutumbo is still distinguished from the rest of them, because of the fact that he was born in Africa. I'm sure this isn't the first time, Mutumbo's heritage has led to someone "accidentally" insulting him. I can see a child calling someone a monkey and not understanding the racist dimension that term has, but this is a grown man who would have to be beyond naive to have not understood what he was saying. What's more, the way he apparently acted out the monkey term after he saw Dikembe get angry, just makes it more obvious.

Here's the video guys. Invalid Video Link The guys ugly shiry, him flailing his arms like a cheerleader, and Mutombo very pissed off it's all there.
Great summing it up, man. In the video, you could see the guys shirt AND when JVG gives V-Span the mean-"dam u turnover machine"-look.

He looks like he wants to assassinate him. I like how Span was avoiding eye contact with JVG.
LOL, that guy was trying to act hard in that video, and now he wants to donate 5,000 to Mutombo's charity.
