<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> October 27, 2006 -- While Isiah Thomas was questioning starting center Eddy Curry's manhood, Knicks fans were questioning his backup's ability and availability.

With Jerome James, Malik Rose and Jared Jeffries all hurt and out indefinitely, newcomer Kelvin Cato, signed Wednesday, will have to get up to speed in a hurry.

Cato (6-11, 275) basically was signed off the street, not in training camp with any NBA team. And with the Knicks playing their preseason finale tonight against the Nets, and opening the regular season Wednesday in Memphis, that leaves Cato little time to work himself into shape.

"[Thomas] just told me to be me; play my game, do what I do, and help as much as possible," said Cato, mired on the Pistons' bench last year behind their deep frontcourt. "That's my thing; whatever opportunity I can get, I'll try to take them, be as positive in those minutes as I can, do whatever they tell me.

"Right now my conditioning is the main thing. They're three, four weeks ahead of me because they had a whole training camp. That's what my main focus right now." </div>

I think the signing of Cato will help the Knicks big time and I have no doubt that he will pick up the pace to get game ready.

    I also like his attitude.

Just another signing to me. The knicks sign everyone but this is better than the jerome james signing.

I don't really like Cato from his days in Orlando. He didn't do much for them but for the Knicks I see him doing good and helping them defensively.

Like CLos said, Cato is decent at best. He is old and in Orlando was usually injured in some way or another. When he is on the court he provides some shot blocking and he has great chemistry with Francis. Expect to see some alley-oops from those two this season because it was a very common thing in Orlando.
