<div class="quote_poster">Sasha Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">In a modern-day Southern California neighborhood and high school, student Brendan Frye's piercing intelligence spares no one. He's not afraid to back up his words with actions, and knows all the angles; yet he prefers to stay an outsider, and does - until the day that his ex-girlfriend, Emily, reaches out to him unexpectedly and then vanishes. His feelings for her still run deep; so much so, that he becomes consumed with finding his troubled inamorata. To find her, he enlists the aid of his only true peer, the Brain, while keeping the assistant vice principal only occasionally informed of what quickly becomes a dangerous investigation. Brendan's single-minded unearthing of students' secrets thrusts him headlong into the colliding social orbits of rich-girl sophisticate Laura, intimidating Tugger, substance-abusing Dode, seductive Kara, jock Brad and - most ominously - non-student the Pin. Only by gaining acceptance into the Pin's closely guarded inner circle of crime and punishment that Brendan will be able to uncover hard truths about himself, Emily and the suspects that he is getting closer to. And that movie uses a weird slang as well. I liked it though, and it had a real classical detective story touch. 8.5/10

    The Prestige 10/10

Directed by Christopher Nolan, starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Caine, and David Bowie.

I have but a simple review, and two words to describe this film. Absolute brilliance. Jackman and Bale play two illusionists who are also rivals, out to outwit the other before they are outwitted. I am having a hard time reviewing this film without spoiling it, so I will simply recant my two words for this film. Absolute brilliance. Nolan has an uncanny knack for misdirection, and is a magician filmmaker.

    Code Name: The Cleaner 4/10

Starring Cedric the Entertainer, Lucy Liu, Nicolette Sheridan, and Mark Dacascos.

Mildy comical at best, and really, while not expecting much, I still felt like I had wasted a good 90 minutes of my life(watched this on a laptop on a 2 hour ride, so that wasn't too bad on my conisence) on this atrocity of a comedy film. Cedric needs to stick to characters like the old man barber in the Barbershop films instead of playing himself or a plain character.

Avoid this film at all costs.

    Payback: Director's Cut 8/10
    http://imdb.com/title/tt0958860/

Directed by Brian Helgeland, starring Mel Gibson, Maria Bello, David Paymer, William Devane, Gregg Henry, Deborah Kara Unger, and Lucy Alexis Liu (now known as Lucy Liu).
This is not the Payback that was released in 2000, yet similar. It turns out the director did not make the final cuts for the 2000 version, and scenes were re-filmed, new scenes filmed for that 2000 cut. It appears Mel Gibson decided that Payback deserved its true cut by its true original co-writer and director, Brian Helgeland.

The first half of the 2007 cut is basically the same as the 2007 cut, with a little different order of some scenes. The 2nd half is drastically different, with different bosses, etc. For example, Kris Kristofferson is in the old 2000 version, but not in the 2007 cut.

What is different is for me to know and for you to watch to find out. Back in the day of Payback, I loved it to death, and watched it a ton of times. I'd gladly watch it again. 2007's Payback is equally good, but I will admit not as much fun to watch repeatedly as 2000's Payback. One reason I love watching Payback is the connection and dialogue between Mel Gibson (Porter) and Gregg Henry's (Val Resnick) characters, and the Val Resnick character, which is superbly and fantanstically cockingly played by Gregg Henry.

Upon first viewing, I think both are equal in quality, but I think the 2000 cut slightly edges the 2007 cut, but not by much, because the 2007 cut is really good.

Recommended rental if you can, if not, it ain't too bad at around $15.

    Deja Vu 8/10

Directed by Tony Scott, Starring Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Paula Patton, and Jim Caveziel.

A really fantanstic mix of police work, science fiction, and great action. Denzel Washington plays a ATF agent invesigating a ferry exploison that kills 500 people. Denzel, as always, does a superb job being a cop. This is the kind of movie that is eaisly spoiled, imo, so I will stop here with the details. I gave this a 8/10 because I don't find it terribly rewatchable, but a very EXECLLENT movie to watch once. The story is not hard to follow and pretty much paints a picture for you to follow throughout the film. I must commend on the script, it was well written.

I like the movie quite a bit. The reason Y he got put on house arrest I would've done the same thing. Talking about my father and ish that was unnecessary.

Great action/suspense movie with a twist. Also helps that Denzel is one of my favorite actors.

    Touching The Void 10/10 (Documentary/Drama)

    http://imdb.com/title/tt0379557/

Directed by Kevin MacDonald, based on the book (true story) by Joe Simpson.

Joe Simpson and Simon Yates embark on a climb that no one has ever done, and no one has done since, the West face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. Touching The Void chronicles Joe Simpson's constant brush with death after being dropped by Simon. Joe had broken his leg on a fall on the descent after reaching the top. Joe had lost footing, and was hanging by Simon's rope. Simon had made a snow seat to hold Joe, but he was slipping. He makes the decison to cut off the rope and save himself. Joe drops 150 feet into a crevase, to certain death. This documentary chronicles the intense psychological struggles to get himself down the mountain with a broken leg. This story makes me feel so.. miniscule, and as tough as I ever could be, I could not touch Joe Simpson's toughness. I don't think many of us on Earth can.

Recommended rental/viewing if you can stand a documentary.
