Just read on ESPN, Red died today of a heart attack. RIP Red, the greatest coach who ever lived. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2642131
He was THE great pioneer for the game of basketball. He, Walter Brown, Fred Zollner, and Danny Biasone were the only ones who kept the game alive in the early years. Just hard to believe right now. Although, if you'd seen him lately, you could figure this was bound to happen sooner rather than later. The greatest coach, administrator, and person the game got to know. I'll miss listening to the stories he had to share more than anything. He had more insight into what basketball has become than maybe any man before or since, and you can't replace that.
THE greatest coach to ever touch the floor. . it'll take sometime before someone is up there with him. R.I.P, Red Auerbach.
R.I.P. And I agree with Squishface. His take on the current state of the game was always worth listening to.
Red has to be one of the biggest Boston Sports Heroes of all time. He didn't just make an impact on the Celtic organization, but on the entire nation. He did everything possible to better the sport of basketball. He was the creator of one of sports greatest dynasties, and he was the greatest coach to ever live. Eight titles in a row, now that's impressive... Not to mention bringing Bill Russell, Jo Jo White, Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale and many more to Boston. He practically created the tactics of the "sixth man." He was a humorous man too, the way he told those stories of his; full of emotion and some cussing words, always made me chuckle. He lived a long life full of victory, happiness and love. He was devoted to the Celtics through and through, and he touched many peoples lives along the way. To this day the Garden went willed when he was spotted in the stands. We'll miss you pal, may you rest in peace.
Greatest of all Time I think one of the mods should move this thread to the NBA forum. This is a great loss for the basketball world in general, not just the Celtics
