They're not exactly a Jalen Rose-sized piece away from contending. The second point is fair. He might be willing to sign for the TV opportunities, but I think his willingness to do that will depend on how much money other teams are offering, and those teams' chances of winning a title. Do the Clippers have their LLE? Wouldn't they be interested in using him as a back-up to Cassell and at SG? From what I understand, Livingston is still raw as hell. Playing for the Clips would also afford him the TV exposure he's interested in, as well as a better chance of winning immediately.
Livingston needs more time on the floor. If they add on Rose, his progress will be pushed back again. I dont think the clips will do that. This is the year we'll see much more of Livingston. Dont Under-estimate the Lakers. Last season, they were on the verge of a major upset but collapsed after a 3-1 lead. This Laker squad is deadly. What makes it worse, is that teams and coaches will UNDER-estimate them. Remember, as long as you have a Kobe Bryant. Anything is possible. mark it.

And I agree, Jalen Rose isn't going to make a major difference this season. This is why I want the Lakers to lock Jalen Rose in for 1 year and have a team option for a 2nd year. If this unit stays together and is healthy, I think the Lakers will be right in the mix for a title run next season. Jalen Rose could be a solid contributor to those goals. Speaking of, another reason Jalen Rose might come to Lakers is playing time. He's good enough to beat Smush or any other PG on the roster for starter minutes, plus Rose can also play SF or SG. There's a lot of opportunities for him to log minutes, those same opportunities wouldn't exist on other teams.
I think if any team can use Rose right its the Lakers, but he could be a handful for Phil Jackson. However he struggles with guarding even the slower SFs, let alone SGs. As well he shot selection isn't always the best. I also think the Lakers will probably make playoffs and probably lose in the first round, but I think the Lakers are one of the teams that can be an underdog and pull out an upset.

I do know, if he wants to stay on the court for the Lakers he'll have to play strong on the defensive end, otherwise PJax will have him watching. Obviously it's not fair to expect Rose to contain a player like Steve Nash or another speed guard, but as long as he can make it hard for them and disrupt the passing lanes he'll be effective. Having Rose, also makes it harder for teams to run the pick and roll. In the Suns series, Smush was getting abused on switches, when he ended up guading Diaw in the post. At least Rose will have more height and size to force Diaw into a lower percentage shot.
Rose would probably prefer L.A. over the other cities being thrown out (Denver). The only thing is that the Lakers would be getting more of a swingman than the big point guard that he used to be. The Raptors tried to play him as a point guard/playmaking shooting swingman early on in 2004 and it failed miserably. He's slower to make that extra pass than he used to be and he was looking for his own shot first. It might've been just an anomaly, but I just don't see him filling the 1 spot in Phil's triangle offense that effectively. What he can bring though is a very versatile offensive game. He's a good shooter, can rebound, and is very effective posting up other guards. He's slower nowadays, but can still beat his defender off the dribble (especially if his shot's falling and he can use the pump fake). I'm not sure how the Laker's starters are set out, but Smush/Farmar-Kobe-Jalen-Lamar-Kwame is a very good offensive lineup. As Skip said, he isn't a very good defender. He's slow from side to side and won't always stay in front of his man. Although he might not be as big a liability with a defender like Brown backing him up.
Rose is a good fit for Phi's triangle offense. He is big and versatile. We will have 3 guys who can distribute the ball Kobe, LO, and Jalen Rose. Imagine a lineup of Rose, Kobe, Vlad, LO, Kwame, they can switch at any 4 spot, which making it extremely hard for the opponent to run the pick n roll. Also Rose is a veteran player, so I expect his basketball IQ to be way better than Smush or rookie Jordan Farmar. He played under pressure very well and most importantly, he knows the game of basketball! He's like a Sam Cassel, not a good defender but at least has the basketball IQ to stay up with other young guards. Jalen had expressing interest playing for the lakers in the past. In fact, during the Best Damn Sport Show Period, he claimed he would play for the lakers for free. Now it's all about us pursuing him. If the Lakers are out to get him, I believe Rose will come here for a Low Vet Min around 1-2 mil. He still getting pay for over 16 mils from the Knicks, so financial is not an issue for him. Beside playing in LA not only help his basketball career but also his business side as well.
Triangle or not, Rose as a Point Guard will spend a lot of time watching Tony Parker and Shaun LIvingston dash by him.
Thats why its 5 on 5 and not one on one.... I think Rose will find success in the Triangle if given the opportunity.
Jalen Rose will definitely give the Lakers a lift. I mean the guy can play PG, SG, and SF and is very versatile. If he gets signed for the minimum, then the Lakers are in business.
PJax was on the radio today, and they asked him about Jalen Rose. He said Rose could be a nice fit, but doesn't expect the team to pursue him. When the league offered Amnesty cuts, the Lakers felt Rose could be one of the players waived, and the Lakers were ready to go after him.
<div class="quote_poster">ilive4ball Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The Lakers just waived Devin Green- where does that put our roster?</div> It puts us at exactly 15 players. Your 2006-07 Laker roster... 1. Kobe Bryant 2. Lamar Odom 3. Kwame Brown 4. Smush Parker 5. Luke Walton 6. Vlade Radmanovic 7. Andrew Bynum 8. Jordan Farmar 9. Brian Cook 10. Aaron McKie 11. Chris Mihm 12. Shammond Williams 13. Sasha Vujacic 14. Maurice Evans 15. Ronny Turiaf
I still want no part of Aaron McKie, and if we were to be able to land Jalen, I'd think of just saying to hell with it and waive him. Too bad he and Mihm might make an appealing package to someone.
Two areas the organization has failed at annually the past few seasons has been the use of the MLE and getting value for expiring contracts. We did nothing with Slava's expiring contract. We did nothing with Vlade's expiring contract. This one really pissed me off, because teams only had to pay $2.5M and would get $4.5M in cap relief. How can you not give away $2.5M? We did nothing with Devean George expiring contract. MLEs have been a disaster, Devean George, Aaron McKie, Vlade Divac, and Radman is off to a horrific start.
