<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dwyane Wade is listed as a 212-pound guard, even though he hasn't been that since his rookie season. His physical development has been so obvious that assistant coach Erik Spoelstra commented about it after watching an ESPN Classic replay of a Heat-Cavaliers game from 2004. 'He was like, `You were so small,' '' Wade said Sunday. ``It was so long ago, it seems like. And I thought I was big then.'' No, Wade is big now. Bigger than he ever has been, actually. The 6-4 Wade is weighing in at 225 pounds, and it is most noticeable in his upper body. Wade said the added strength wasn't necessarily planned, and he'll inevitably drop down to last year's playing weight of about 218. ''My body's weird, man,'' Wade said. ``My body goes through stages where it has its own mind on where it wants to be weighed. Right now, this is where it wants to be. ``I've played at different weights from college to now, from 200 pounds to where I am now, 225. I feel a lot stronger and I'm still quick. But I'm sure once we really get going and I get those 40 minutes a night, I'll be back down.'' Wade says he's not big on weightlifting, though he has taken steps to make sure he feels healthy after playing an entire calendar year of basketball. ''I pretty much kept the weightlifting the same,'' Wade said. ``I try to make sure I come in and do the work that's required of me. The only thing I've done different is trying to eat a little different, trying to stretch a lot and trying to keep my body as right as I can to make you feel good about it mentally, more so than anything. ``When training camp was in I had a chef cook for me every day. I like certain things, but I kind of let him put some changes in to some of the things I eat. I'm trying to get more vegetables in me and trying different things that I normally don't like to.'' Wade plans on taking advantage of his size while he remains in the 225 range.</div> Source
That sounds pretty impressive but it might cut into his speed. Since he still is heightwise a bit undersized his speed is really his advantage over other 2 guards. But 218 sounds a more reasonable weight for him like he said.
Im not sure if that was a wise move considering how much he loves to fall to the ground. The bigger they are the harder they fall.
If D-wade is a football type body, I'm sure he can run around the same with the added weight or get even quicker. It just depends on how he is training his muscles to get quicker with the added muscle mass. With the way football players are today, it's very possible for a heavy dude who is all muscle to run a sickening 40 yard dash against a lighter weight guy and beat him. Dwade might have such a body to perform like that.
I don't think it affects his speed at all, and like he said, he'll be back down as the season progresses.
Dwade really needs to develop an outside game... because no "BODY" can take the beating D-wade takes night in and night out... even Dwade himself... his body will eventually wear down if this continues... IMO it's better if he weighs around 218
