<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> EL SEGUNDO - Pretty much everybody in the Clipper organization is happy that Chris Kaman signed a five-year, $52.5 million contract extension. But one player watched the process with an especially keen eye - Shaun Livingston.

Livingston will be in similar position as Kaman next year, and he is hoping that he can follow the center's trail and get an extension, even when the Clippers will be in no immediate danger of losing him to free agency.

"I would love the same situation to happen with me as it did with Kaman," Livingston said Sunday. "But it's about both parties. I have to perform, and then they have to perform."

Kaman had a "break-out" type of year last season when he averaged 11.9 points and was ninth in the league with 9.6 rebounds. Livingston is hoping that he also has a break-out type of season in which he might take over the starting point guard job from veteran Sam Cassell.

Statistically, though, Livingston has a way to go. The 6-foot-7 guard shows glimmers of athleticism and extraordinary passing, and the Clippers are extremely high on him.

But he averaged a mere 5.8 points and 4.5 assists last season. </div>

he needs to be a starter. i can see cassell doing more off the bench anyway, and giving an offensive spark.

The Clippers named him the starting PG for opening night.

Why is he even talking now? It's still a long ways away, and all he's done in the NBA is shown flashes of his limitless potential and get injured. I hope he does have a great year though.

    Doesn't everyone want a Kaman-esque deal? 50 mill over 5 years.

Centers generally make more money even if less talented, (Damp, Jerome James, Nene, Foyle, Ratliff, etc.)

This upcoming season could be a year where Livingston proves his worth or not-worth.

Dunleavy Sr. said it's more to the fact Livingston had an impressive preseason. The Clippers are likely going to feature both players in the backcourt this season in the starting lineup, with Mobley coming off the bench.
