<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lamar Odom received a fairly large vote of confidence on Sunday. "I believe Lamar could be as good as he wants to be," team owner Jerry Buss said. "He comes within one or two statistics half the time of having a triple-double. You have to wonder if he wanted to do it, just to get one more assist or another rebound or something, finish up the year with about 40 triple-doubles, then I think everybody would know what Lamar Odom's all about. "I know that's what the coaches try to get him to do, to be more aggressive, take the role. I think Lamar definitely can do it." Odom averaged 14.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists last season.</div> Source
I think Odom is very capable of doing something like that. He's got all the tools and talent to be able to pull that off. However, I just don't see it happening. I can see maybe a 6-12 trip-dubs, but not 40. He's capable, but doing something like that is just hard to fathom in today's NBA.
I don't think Buss actually believes Odom can get 40. The guy's been around for 30 years, I think he realizes that short of Oscar Robertson (and a couple others), those kind of numbers are out of the reach of everyone else. My guess is he was just trying to light a fire under Odom's often unmotivated ass.
I think he is providing a motivation for Lamar more than he was trying to be a statistician. I like management getting involved and showing support for their players, usually all you hear from management is about money.
Odom is capable of doing it but it's not going to happen. He doesn't go out there thinking he needs one more assist for his triple double. All I hope is he plays like an all star this season.
40 double doubles sounds more realistic. He had 29 last season, so it's possible. Just to change the topic a little, the stats at ESPN.Com show that Kobe averaged 37/5.4/4.4 and 1.9 steals while playing at home.

I dont think he's saying Odom will get 40 triple doubles, he's saying that Lamar Odom is probally capable of getting 40 triple ddoubles in a season if he really strived too. I cant say I dont agree, after 2 games already this season he has come VERY close to triple doubles in both games.
