Your question is somewhat tricky. Even if you're under the cap, you gotta ask the player if they want to play here to begin with, but I think they will. Who wouldn't want to play for LA? any of these guys can't go wrong: KG, Tim Duncan, Yao Ming, Dirk, Elton Brand, Dwight Howard, Bosh, etc...But realistically none of them will play here because they are lock with their respective franchises. Now realistically, a potential free agents that I think we have a chance at acquiring in the near future (meaning 07, 08) are KG & Ron Artest. So if I'm a Lakers' gm, I try to acquire Ron Artest first and have a run at KG through a sign & trade second. Apart from the players mentioned, Shaq and Alonzo Mourning would also mean serious contention for a championship. A combination of the two for the whole duration of the game is extremely beneficial to the guards.
