Officials at Texas A&M are mad because the Seahawks have been recognizing their fans as their 12th man and Texas A&M claims that the Seahawks are violating their trademark. Are you kidding me? Texas A&M needs to get over itself. For Texas A&M and it's supporters to be upset is just petty.

Welcome to politics in football.. Who really cares. A&M got it's name "the 12th man" in a different way than Seattle did. I remember the story about a guy in the stands playing special teams or something. Seattle gets it from the noise.

Does anyone outside of College Station, Texas actually gives a damn about this issue?

First off I'm from Texas and I hate the Longhorns and love the Aggies. Look as crazy as it might sound Seattle's marketing a product that legally belongs to Texas A&M.
As for A&M's 12th man tradition...

Well, the 12th man is only effective when the opposing team doesn't use hand signals and other "silent" methods to communicate to eachother. Pittsburgh proved this time and again this year. You can scream like crazy at someone who is deaf and uses hand signals and they'll just look at you like you are retarded. However, I do feel sorry for the teams that rely on talking when they go into Seattle to play.

dcradio, thanks for the link. Those are some cool traditions. I guess I just think this lawsuit is silly. How is this going to hurt Texas A&M? Will the selling of Seahawks' 12th man gear cut into selling of Texas A&M gear? I could see the school trying to prevent independant dealers from selling unlicensed Texas A&M 12th man gear because the school wouldn't be making any money, but not this. Of course, I should confess that I view the NCAA and it's member schools as being money worshipping whores whose "yes" can always be bought for a price. I just wish the NCAA cared as much for the education of their athletes as they do about making every dollar they possibly can.

A & M must really have their knickers in a wad if they actually plan on litigating.

Does this mean the NBA can sue? After all, they have 12 man rosters?

I hear by market the name porky!! I was given this nick name by my buddies when we were just wee toddlers running around at recise at school. So Porky Pig should find a new name.

^sarcasm meant to make a point though..

Hey don't get me wrong I agree with you. I'm just pointing out what's legal about this whole thing. Personally I don't think Seattle's 12th man gimmick could hurt A&M in anyway, in fact I think Seattle using their own version benefits A&M more than it hurts it. But hey that's just me.
