http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/9201392 He makes a good point. I think the numbers definately say he isnt a HOFer.
But the fact that he said he is a pro's pro! The way you handle yourself on and off the field makes a big difference and I think Bettis has been the face of the steelers for the last 10 years, he is also fifth all time in rushing yards. He is just a very likeable guy and this is what I think will get him into the hall. There are players in the there that have not had such an impact on the game so let's not start getting picky when the bus does his 5 years
he made a great point about Ricky Watters, but i think in 5 years like he said the hype will subside and he wont be a lock anymore he'll be on the bubble
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (vikingfan)</div><div class='quotemain'>Remember, the Hall loves Pittsburgh players. How else can you explain Lynn Swan?</div> True. Only a few hundred more worthy candidates than swanny
My gut feeling on Bettis for the hall is yes....those avg's are skewed a little by the number of years hes hung on as a contributor, instead of the feature back....hes never been a big threat out of the backfield in the passing game, but hes always been a willing blocker, so hes not a liability when throwing....hes not a fumbler, and he has been productive when hes played....his avg per carry has declined in recent years because hes become a short yardage specialist, but I see that as positive, not a negative....accepting that role for teams that have gone far in the playoffs says something about a man that was THE MAN on that team for a long time....I looked over the numbers and debated them internally, but it didnt take long for me to decide that he belongs in Canton....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>He makes a good point. It is not the hall of lobbying voters for recognition, that is how swanny got in
That's a great article. I like the comparison to Ricky Watters. What a shame that he left the game with gas still in the tank purely for money reasons. I also like the Art Monk mention. I swear to God, if Michael Irvin gets in the hall before Art Monk, I'm going to flip out.
