<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Doc Rivers seemed unduly coy when asked about his starting lineup some 45 minutes before last night?s opener against the Hornets. The reason for holding back the information from the gathered media was, he said, to try to gain a little edge. But even the use of an opening quintet different from any he?d used in the preseason didn?t suit the Celtics, who proceeded to surrender eight of the game?s first 10 points and go on to a 91-87 loss. Rivers threw a changeup, putting Delonte West in the backcourt with Sebastian Telfair and moving Paul Pierce up front with Wally Szczerbiak and Kendrick Perkins. Ryan Gomes took a seat. The coach had raved in the pregame about West?s shooting and how it would open the game for others, but he hit just one of his five attempts from the floor - and that was an essentially meaningless rebound hoop with 2.4 seconds left. ?Delonte?s still struggling,? said Rivers of the guard, who missed the early part of camp as well as Tuesday?s practice with a sore back. ?You can see that. So we have to make sure he?s healthy.? The coach still likes the lineup. ?It makes them react to us,? he said. ?Of course, it doesn?t work unless you execute, and I thought our execution was horrible. I thought Sebastian and Delonte were running at the ball together. They haven?t done that all week. Once the execution broke down, that?s when I went with Ryan and went bigger. ?We?re going to use (last night?s lineup) a lot. Not every night, but we?re going to use that a lot.?</div> Source
Why not every night? Oh I know, because Doc can't commit to anything. He's the most inconsistent, noncommital, incompetent coach available. And if this keeps up, in another couple months, he will be available again, if there's a God.
