Anybody find it incredibly odd that he didnt play in this game or pretty much all of preseason? Is there something we dont know about? How does one go from 32 min a game for around 80 games to no playing time in one season. Is there some sort of hidden injury we dont know about?

Wasn't he injured before preseason? Maybe the injury is taking longer to heal than expected. Either that or he'll be like Mo Taylor. Kept out with a fake injury then traded.

Injured? I think not. JVG is a total moron, he better gets his act together before he gest shipped out of here. I think He is probably keeping the guy in his Doghouse. And what's up with Padgett having PT over juwan and novak, and no Vspan at all (we could have used his firy defense and hustle)? Padgett was a no show last night, but still played 21 mns.

yea I agree, there are some questionable coaching decisions last night...
Rafer playing 43 mins.. Novak playing next to nothing and JHoward not playing.... rooks, live VSpan, didnt even play. I think its time for a new coach.

Even though I agree that JVG had a poor outing yesterday in not playing Vspan and Juwan. He also limited Luther Head and Novak's minutes BUT I wouldnt go as far as saying he should be gone. Alston really disappointed me yesterday. I stand here confident that Vspan will start before season is over.

I completely agree. I wouldn't play Howard if I had Hayes, and V-Span is way to raw. We were already turning it over like crazy, with Span on the floor we would have never got a shot up.

I was fairly impressed with Alston. He seemed nervous early on in the game, but really seemed to come through later in the game and hit some 3s.

I was very dissapointed with T-Mac. I kept hoping to see a sign that he would take over the game. That was a very silent 4th quarter for him.

It is really a pity that Rocket lost their first game. I wonder if they can go playoff.

What is this, the last two years all over again? Whenever the Rockets lose someone calls for JVG's head. Geez.

After seeing VSpan's first outing last night in a real NBA game, and Alston's stellar play... I'm not so sure he'll be starting. He turns the ball over way too much but I like the way he takes the ball to the hoop. He'll be decent this year as an energy guy off the bench, dunno if it will be more than that.

As for Juwan, I see his role is going to be backup C to Yao against smaller lineups. Seems fair. Juwan can score in the low post when Yao is in foul trouble or when JVG wants to run with a smaller lineup. His per-game averages will hurt if he has too many of these 3 min appearances but I doubt he'll complain if the Rockets play more like they did against dallas.

Juwan seems to be in Van Gundy's doghouse. Only 2 minutes last night. Then again, as long as we play as well as did last night, I don't care how much Howard plays.

I don't think Van Gundy is angry with him or anything. I have a feeling that Morey convinced him in the offseason that Hayes is an effective player who has a much more positive impact on defense than Juwan.

Plus, when Van Gundy wants to go with a better offensive lineup, it makes more sense to have a 3-point shooter at PF instead of a midrange shooter like Juwan.

Juwan seems to have lost his place on this team. He's fairly undersized at the 4, in which case Battier is much stronger physically and better defensively that JVG would rather have Battier in there. But in games like in NOK where Yao is in early foul trouble and the Rox need post offense, Howard will get PT.

I guess Juwan Howard is a backup 5 when they need scoring and Yao is in foul trouble. Mutumbo seems to have trouble holding the ball. I think in the Hornets game, he played at the 4 for a few minutes.
