<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Just three seasons into his career, Dwyane Wade has shot down many questions about his game to emerge as one of the NBA's most dominant players.

Need someone to knock down a key jumper with the shot clock winding down?

''We're going to D-Wade,'' Heat forward Udonis Haslem said.

Need a game-winning drive to the basket?

''You want the ball in his hands,'' center Shaquille O'Neal said.

Need a lockdown defender who can shut down the opposing team's top player?

    Well. . .

Heat coach Pat Riley has challenged Wade this season to be the man for that job, too.

''He can defend. I know he can defend,'' Riley said Thursday. ``We're going to ask him to do a bit more of that this year.''

Wade faces what has been one of his toughest assignments in his matchup against Vince Carter when the Heat (0-1) attempts to rebound from Tuesday's 42-point opening loss tonight at AmericanAirlines Arena against the New Jersey Nets (1-0).</div>

my prediction: he'll come through strong. he'll hold vc to no more than 13 points, some of which will come from the line. he loves to accept challenges like these so i wouldnt be suprised to see him evolve into a much greater defender, just not one of the best in the league...yet.

And Mr. Wade fails the challenge, VC scores 27, almost what I predicted.

Holding VC to 27 on about 40 something percent is pretty damn good. VC is the kind of guy who can go off for 40 so I say he did pretty well.

Vince shot 48% from the field, and scored 27 points, how is that "pretty damn good"? It's not like he averages 40 points a game. 27 is above his average from this and last year.

Sure, so anytime someone holds someone else to 27 points you say "oh .. well he could've had 40." Look at VC's average and then talk.

And I dont think Wade would be able to hold LBJ down to 13 points, not atleast this season.

Well LeBron is a great all around player. But defensively he's nothing special.

I don't mean to learn defense from him, I mean to guard him. If he works with someone like Bowen, it won't do much good since Bowen can't really score, so going against an easy offensive player will just make you think you're better on defense than you are.
