<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The announced crowd was 16,644 at the Wachovia Center yesterday afternoon and - surprise, surprise - most of the fans actually stuck around until the final buzzer sounded. Including chairman Ed Snider.

Boos weren't descending from the stands. The 76ers weren't pierced by the seemingly perpetual frowns of Snider. And the cheers that serenaded this 3-0 team, one that sits atop the Atlantic Division for the time being, were genuine because of the play of Andre Iguodala and the team's overall defense - not cynical because of the absence of Mr. Shaquille O'Neal.

The Miami Heat may have been without their future Hall of Fame center because of a bruised knee, but no one in Philadelphia should have cared about that yesterday.

Instead, the focus should be on a defense that is visibly more intense, a coach in Maurice Cheeks who has undergone a personality transplant, and the impressive second-half numbers recorded by Iguodala.

They were registered at the expense of Chris Webber.

    Finally.

Let it be said that for the Sixers to be successful this season, for them to even sniff the postseason and tease anyone into believing they'll play a game in the month of May, what transpired yesterday needs to happen over and over and over again.

Allen Iverson will need to be prolific and Kyle Korver will need to keep making shots in his sixth-man role, but it's a must that this defense stays tenacious.

It's also a must that the secondary offensive option for this team becomes a 6-foot-6, 22-year-old guard with fresh legs out of Arizona. Not a 33-year-old former member of Michigan's Fab Five, with legs that appear so much older.

With all due respect to Webber, such a transition makes sense. Especially with everyone's backsides on the line. For every moment this Sixers team struggles, you feel everything from Iverson's age, to the job insecurity of Cheeks and team president Billy King, to the state of this franchise's ownership all hanging in the balance.

The Iverson-Iguodala combination changes all of that. It makes the Sixers quicker, faster, more lethal, and certainly more entertaining.

If that occurs at the expense of Webber's ego, no worries. He'll be fine once the playoffs roll around and Cheeks is utilizing him as a point forward.</div>

i think the sixers can do some damage this year if they play like this all year. but andre and sammy need to keep it up and lock down other teams scorers, while stile putting up decent numbers on the offensive end. webber really doesnt need to worry, he'll get his as the season goes on.

Carney is playing great defence at the moment too especially for a rookie. I think that defensively we are much stronger we just need to stay focused on it. Bobby Jones is also a great defender so with a mix of great defenders and some quick offence our bench is looking deeper than it seems on paper.
