<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Count LeBron James as one player who hasn't stopped voicing objections regarding the NBA's new composite basketball.

"I don't think I ever will," he replied when asked if he'll ever become accustomed to it. "It's not a good basketball, in my opinion. You've been so used to playing with a leather ball for the last three years. It feels like a basketball you buy for your kids at Christmas, or something.

"If you want to change something, make our shorts shorter or our jerseys smaller and tell us how to wear wristbands," he said. "You change the dress code.

"The one thing we care about is the basketball. I don't understand why would you change the one thing we agree and care about. When you change the thing we play with at every single game and in every practice, that we were comfortable with, it doesn't make sense to me at all." </div>

I thought these balls have been used in high schools the last few years. Wasn't LeBron exposed to these synthetic balls at an early age already?

I have to admit, I've seen a lot of players lose their handle for no apparent reason with the new ball. And the new ball doesn't grab the rim like a leather ball does.

I have a feeling that the ball will be changed back by next season....if scoring goes down and there are enough complaints, the NBA will do it from a business standpoint.

I actually bought one to feel the difference everyone was talking about. It's definitely not as good a feeling as the old balls, however I think players will eventually get used to it and settle down because it still has a very good feel to it. I prefer the new ball.

Thanks for the link to the article. I'm actually writing an essay about this for my English class. I need to propose an alternative to the hated synthetic ball, in this case going back to the leather balls. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to carry this out that might help my research?

Actually there was an article on ESPN today on the statistics of the new ball. All the complaining by the players is actually NOT supported by the statistical findings.

Turnovers are less than last season.
    Teams are scoring more.
FG% has increased, especially from mid-range shots league wide.
FT% averages have increased league wide.

Yeah, I read that article and it bummed me out. I'm gonna ignore that I ever read it or that it even exists for the sake of my grade. I'm just looking to put together the sources from those involved in the league that argue that the ball is a bad thing. If somebody wants to write an essay opposing my argument, then they can use that ESPN article for support.
