<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Wanted: A consistent third scoring option behind Paul Pierce and Wally Szczerbiak. The job has gone unfilled for quite some time, with the same void existing last season behind Pierce and Ricky Davis, Szczerbiak?s predecessor. The trick, once again, is identifying a steady option in what is one of the NBA?s youngest supporting casts. ?Someone is going to develop into that third guy,? Celtics coach Doc Rivers said after yesterday?s practice. ?Right now it?s Al (Jefferson). He?s brought that off the bench for us. But it can also be someone different for us. It?s our job to figure it out each day who is that person.? Jefferson, who averaged 11.3 points, seven rebounds and 26.7 minutes in the first three games, wants it known that he can fill the job. ?I love to score, ever since high school,? Jefferson said. ?I want to be that third scorer, but I also want to do the little things like rebounding.? At least Jefferson is saying and producing what the personnel department wants to hear and see right now. ?He?s coming around,? Pierce said. ?He?s doing the things on offense and defense that are going to earn him more playing time.? Said Rivers: ?He?s doing a lot of good things, especially on offense. The big thing is that he?s playing with his eyes open - he?s aware of things, and he?s playing with good spirit.? </div> Source
I think Big Al might finally have found his niche, that's awfully refreshing. His contributing for the second unit could be a large thing for him to do, but rebounding as a 'little thing' is a little frightening.
