<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">ORLANDO - The Orlando Magic found a way to get back in the win column. In the process, they might've found a new starting point guard, too. It'll be the talk today. But it's a conversation Magic head coach Brian Hill wasn't willing to have Monday night, moments after his team bounced back from two disappointing losses with a much-needed 106-103 down-to-the wire home win against the Washington Wizards. "There's no controversy here," Hill insisted, shaking his head as he spoke of current starting point guard Jameer Nelson, and perhaps future starting point guard Carlos Arroyo. No controversy? With all due respect to Coach Hill, an arena full of people and a Sunshine Network television audience might beg to differ. For evidence, they could start with Arroyo's team-high 23 points and the fact that Hill benched Nelson (who had eight points) the entire fourth quarter. "Those guys," Hill added, perhaps a bit desperately, "have a great deal of respect for each other." That's nice. But respect isn't the issue here. A point guard who can turn the ignition key on this offense without repeatedly turning the ball over is what has been needed lately. Jameer Nelson doesn't have a handle on that, yet. Right now, Carlos Arroyo does.</div> Source
what the hell is wrong with jameer? i mean... you can tell that during the game it just doesnt seem like he's as sharp or careful handling the ball. he's trying to do too much... anyone else have any inputs on what he is doing wrong and how he can fix it?
How would Arroyo fair at SG do you think? Or Nelson for that matter? Both of them in the game as starters could be huge for offense.
Putting Arroyo at shooting guard would be a terrible idea in my opinion. While it sounds good because Jameer is a shoot first point guard, it wouldn't translate well on the court because our backcourt would be extremely undersized and we would have to rely on either Keyon Dooling or Travis Diener to play big minutes at backup point guard. Also, Grant Hill is our starting shooting guard so if Arroyo were to take his spot, he would either have to be benched or moved to small forward (which would move Hedo Turkoglu to the bench). Our team needs to develop chemistry and switching players in and out of the starting lineup probably isn't the best thing for this team.
Start Jameer Nelson, but if he continues to not perform, play Arroyo down the stretch and give him more minutes. He has historically started seasons very very slowly. I remember he was awful at the beginning of his rookie season and if I remember correctly he wasn't very good last year either at the beginning. He just needs to get back in the groove.
i dont know about you guys but i never saw nelson to be a shoot first point guard...he always looks to pass and he only takes shots that are wide open.
