Lakers v. TWolves -- Win A Prize!

Pre Game Predictions Contest

1. Who will lead the Lakers in scoring tonight?
2. Who will lead the Lakers in rebounds tonight?
3. Who will lead the Lakers in assists tonight?
4. Who will Andrew Bynum "truck" tonight?
5. Will the Lakers win or lose?
6. Will Lamar Odom get a triple double?
7. Will the Lakers have more FTAs or 3PTAs?
8. Will the Lakers have under or over 20 turnovers?

Each question you get right is worth 1 point, and after each month there will be a prize for the highest score. If you edit your choices after the game starts to cheat, you'll be disqualified. Which means all picks must be in before the game starts.

I'll keep an updated point total and your scores will be reset to zero at the end of a month.

Tipoff is at 7:30PM (PST) tonight.

The Lakers are coming off a blowout defeat in Seattle, and the TWolves are coming off back to back losses.

The Lakers have made it a point of emphasis to defend homecourt, and a win tonight would get the team back on track. The adjustment with Kobe coming back to the starting lineup hasn't been smooth, but the more minutes Kobe logs, the faster he'll be in game shape.

The Lakers have had an extra day to prepare for the TWolves, unlike last season, when the Lakers faced the TWolves on the backend of back to back games in all four meetings. It resulted in a losing mark against Minnesota, and a tough time scoring against the TWolves zone defense.

This season the TWolves are relying a lot more on KG offensively. His shot attempts are up and his scoring is up, but the TWolves are still losing games and finding it hard to crack the 90 point mark.

Kobe Bryant will have to be up to the task in slowing down Mike James and keeping him out of rhythm. James is one of those streaky players who can go for 30+ if he gets confident with his jumpshot and starts lighting it up from behind the arc. Normally Kobe matches up with Trenton Hassell, but with an upgrade at SG for Minnesota, Kobe will switch over to check James on defense.

The Lakers keys to a victory are limiting turnovers and giving more energy on defense. The Lakers should try to attack Minnesota's interior and force KG into fouling early. The TWolves don't have much depth off the bench to replace KG on either end.

I expect a Laker victory tonight and few tweaks in the rotation. I don't think PJax is going to do much tinkering tonight, because he wants to give his troops a chance to beat Minny at home and improve to a 4-1 mark on the season.

Good write up SHape, I love it how last year we were always playing the Wolves after a back-2-back game and the T-Wolves had a day off the night before.

How nice it is now that the tables have turned =)

PPG: 16.5, RPG: 3.5, APG: 4.5
Mike James is a veteran in this league so he know's how to use the ball to get the buckets. He's had a solid start to the season so far, shooting 50% with a decent assist/turnover ratio. Smush Parker will need to use his size and strength to contain him on D. It is important for Smush to do this as Mike James is the Timberwolves second leading scorer behind Garnett.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3539.jpg[/imgl]Trenton Hassell
PPG: 7.5, RPG: 3.0, APG: 2.5
Hassell is lucky that Kobe is just finding his rhythm. However, if Kobe decides to switch gears, Hassell may find himself watching Kobe Bryant's arsenal. On the offensive end, he's not the best, therefore, he will need to use most of his energy trying to force Kobe to take mid-range jumpers.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3264.jpg[/imgl]Ricky Davis
PPG: 12.0, RPG: 2.3, APG: 5.5
Ricky will face a huge miss match against a mourning Lamar Odom. There's not much he can do on the offensive or defensive end against Lamar. He has fairly good passing skills and he will need them to feed the ball to Kevin Garnett. If Ricky can stop Lamar, theres a huge chance the Timberwolves will walk away with the victory

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3007.jpg[/imgl]Kevin Garnett
PPG: 21.5, RPG: 11.8, APG: 1.2
Kevin Garnett seems 100% focused this season. He wants to give it all this season to see if his Timberwolves can achieve success. He can do everything, from shooting, posting up, rebounding to passing. Phil Jackson and the rest of the Lakers are well aware of this so he'll be expecting to be played tightly. Turiaf vs. Garnett will be an interesting matchup and it will be interesting to see if he can dominate the paint against Andrew Bynum with his Shaq-esque body.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3222.jpg[/imgl]Mark Blount
PPG: 9.3, RPG: 7.0, APG: 0.3
Blount will have to keep his feet moving today as Bynum will be faking and shuffling his way through the night provided the Lakers feed the paint. He's a poor shot blocker for a man his size and his turned the ball over alot this season. He'll find it difficult on both ends of the floor against an eleven-year younger Andrew Bynum.

PPG: 7.8, RPG: 3.8, APG: 2.3
William Parker isn't know for his defence but he'll need to put pressure on Mike James on D. We're all aware of his athleticism but hopefully he'll show that theres more to him then offense. As a point guard, he'll need to feed the ball into the post where Bynum can manipulate Blount. His mid-range game will need to be on point as the paint will be clogged with larger bodies.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3118.jpg[/imgl]Kobe Bryant
PPG: 19.0, RPG: 4.0, APG: 7.5
Even though Kobe seems to be quiet offensively, he's still putting up nineteen points with over seven assists a game. However, he may need to take a larger load of the scoring as well as helping Bynum in the post. There were a few sparks of good chemistry between him and Bynum so hopefully Phil gives Bynum more than twenty minutes. If he does so, Kobe will know how to use him not only to create shots for himself but shots in return due working with Shaq. He is also aware of the fact that he needs to impress Garnett to lure him into the Laker's roster so expect alot of passing as well as more effort. Defensively, he was poor but luckily he'll have an easy job against Trenton Hassell.

Frontcourt

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3327.jpg[/imgl]Lamar Odom
PPG: 23.8, RPG: 8.3 , APG: 6.3
Lamar had a mediocre game against the Supersonics and he'll be looking to bounce back. Tonight he'll face Ricky Davis. Lamar needs to crash the boards and play like he played in all of our victories. Lamar will be the X-Factor in tonights game as he needs to exploit and basically rape Ricky Davis. I think he'll have a solid game today providing he drives hard to the basket.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/0000.jpg[/imgl]Ronny Turiaf
PPG: 10.8, RPG: 4.5, APG: 1.0
I believe he'll get his first start of the season against Kevin Garnett and he deserves it. With Kwame Brown out of the team, he'll have his toughest assignment of his career to date. Ronny will need to put all of his energy into this game. Scoring wise, he doesn't need to do much apart from hitting the open shot when he gets the chance. However, he needs to crash the boards on both ends of the floor bringing and stopping second chance points.

[imgl]http://espn-ak.starwave.com/i/nba/profiles/players/65x90/3936.jpg[/imgl]Andrew Bynum
PPG: 11.3, RPG: 6.0, APG: 2.0
It's hard to believe he only celebrated his ninteenth birthday last month. He already has a variety of post up moves and his passing skills are sharp. Andrew will need to use his size to control the paint and change alot of shots on defense. He will need to impress as Kwame did to Kevin Garnett the last time we played. I believe he'll finish with twenty points and ten rebounds if he's given the correct amount of minutes.

Lakers Keys to the Game
[*]Get the ball into the paint - The Lakers didn't get the ball into the paint in the last game against the Sonics as indicated by Bynums 3-3 shooting. Not only can Bynum manipulate Blount, but he'll have the chance to impress a certain Timberwolf who may look to opt out of his contract soon.[*]Feed Lamar - Lamar needs the ball in his hands throughout the game. If he plays as a small forward, he can exploit the undersized Timberwolves by driving hard toward the basket. There is also a strong likelihood of the other Timberwolves picking up fouls playing help defense. He has a chance to put up another thirty point game and we must cease this opportunity.[*]Correct Rotations - Phil played a huge part of the loss against the Supersonics. His rotations confused alot of people and he needs to put faith in the younger players. I believe Turiaf can contain Garnett and there is no need for Odom to waste his energy guarding him. He needs to put the correct players in at the right time's. Hopefully he'll give Bynum and Turiaf the minutes they deserve if they play their roles correctly.[/list]Prediction

This game is going to be depend on our larger players and if they fail we've always got Kobe Bryant as an insurance policy to bail us out. I believe we'll win.

Thanks for doing the preview! Great stuff. I messed up on merging the threads, so that's why your post is pushed below mine.

I'm not sure if we will win by 16 points, the Lakers have been great at taking big leads and giving them up. LOL.

Go Lakers!

Lakers have an early lead in the 1st quarter. Defensively they look better on the inside, especially Bynum. He's altered a few baskets and has a block.

The TWolves are getting a lot of dribble penetration, and the perimeter defense has to do a better job of keeping players in front of them.

Lakers also continue to turn the ball over. They have 7 turnovers already and it's allowed Minnesota to close the gap.

Lakers lead by 5 after the 1st quarter. Free throws are keeping the TWolves in the game, they have 10 attempts already.

Nice job by the Lakers second unit, extending the lead to 10 points. Mo Evans and Bynum are working hard on the offensive glass.

Bynum with the FLUSH! That's how he needs to finish every time when he gets post position! 8 points and 6 rebounds make that 7 rebounds so far.

Damn steal by KG on Kobe, TWolves cut the lead to 4. 5-0 run by Minny.

Luke scores and Lakers are up by 6.

Ricky Davis reverse layup.

Lakers look really flat on offense right now.

Smush with a baby hook! Lakers up by 6.
