<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Lakers center Chris Mihm is expected to miss the entire season now that he?s having another surgery on his right ankle. Mihm, who averaged a career-high 10.2 points and 26.1 minutes last season, was initially diagnosed with a severely sprained ankle on March 12. Since then, he has had numerous complications - and it?ll leave the Lakers leaning on Kwame Brown and Andrew Bynum at center this season.

In a statement released by the Lakers, Mihm said he knew ?a few months ago that there was a chance I?d need such a surgery.? That was because the torn deltoid ligament from his initial March 12 injury has not healed properly. Then Mihm also suffered recent damage to his posterior tibialis tendon, ensuring the need for surgery.

?Naturally, I?m disappointed, but I?m optimistic that in the long run this surgery will lead to a 100 percent recovery, and I look forward to resuming my NBA career full-bore at that time,? Mihm said.

Mihm actually came back to play 14 minutes in the regular-season finale April 19 after missing 17 games, hoping he could play in the playoffs. But he couldn?t, and the surgery performed July 26 by Phillip Kwong to remove scar tissue loosened the ankle enough that it actually wound up leading to the torn tendon.

Mihm, who is making $4.2 million this season, is in the final year of his contract.

Well, his stay in LA is pretty much over........Just a question, what ever made his injury so severe? I remember last season he returned in the playoffs against the Suns. He didn't have much of a role, but he was playing. Did he re-injure it or something?

It could be career ending. 8 more months out from what I hear.

Career ending?? Best wishes to Mihm. Again, what triggered such a big injury? He was playing in the playoff series against the Suns if I remember correctly

This sounds Grant Hill-status. Any ankle injury that requires you to have a another surgery 8 month's after you injured it is obviously something very crippling.

Ankle injuries are always more severe than they look. There are tendons there that could snap like a rubberband. A severe ankle sprain is possibly career ending, ala Mihm's.

I'm not saying his career is over, but he needs to take his time and not rush back.

    He's out 5-8 months.

I feel bad for Mihm, he was just starting to really improve right before he went down with the ankle injury. At one point in the season he was the second best player for the Lakers.

When Grant Hill had setbacks with his ankle, a lot of it had to do with his body rejecting the surgery and the medicine he was taking for it. It wasn't really publicized, but Grant Hill got an infection after surgery, and the first doctor didn't operate properly, forcing Hill to have more surgeries.

Something had to have gone wrong with the doctor Mihm used for his ankle surgery.

The Lakers might have to end up waiving him like they did with Slava.

I remember in the latter part of last season he saw limited playing time coming off the bench. I'm not sure if he was used at all in the playoffs, but I'm most definetly sure he made a return

That is bad news for the Lakers and Chris Mihm. The guy was decent when he was healthy.

It is good that Bynum has shown his ability to play minutes so far, otherwise having only Kwame at center would be difficult.
