"We weren't that far apart," Orlando General Manager Otis Smith said. "We just determined that it wasn't in the best interest of our organization to enter into an extension based on 30 games (from last season)."

Milicic is the only player out of the top-8 selections of the 2003 draft not to have signed an extension.</div>

That's a little much for a guy we've been giving 19 mins a game. If we start to give him more time and he produces, then that should be alright, since big men always demand more money then smaller guys.

He sure isn't playing like he's worth $60M a season. I thought he was ready for a breakout season this year after a strong finish. Right now Darko is only worth the MLE.

Okay, this is just stupid. I love Darko, but the day I spend 60 million on him is the day Isiah Thomas find another job.

Darko had a nice game last night (15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block in 24 min.) and if he can build off of that then maybe he will be worth the $60 million he is asking for. I've been disappointed with Darko so far this year and I really hope he picks it up and becomes the type of player that is good enough to deserve that contract.

I think the Magic should just try throwing Darko in as the starting Center for a few games and see how he responds, and then make their decision based on his performance.

I think 60 mill seems too high for his current contributions. Its more than what Kaman got. I have not seen Darko play this season, so I don't really know.

Yea, last thing we need to do is pull a Golden State and sign a big man for his potential rather than his actual contribution to the team. Im so glad we didnt get Foyle from GS and instead got Hedo. If Darko can avg 16-18ppg, 9-12rpg and 2-3bpg then he would be worth that type of money. We cant invest that type of money into a player that cant produce every night, that would put us on a short hold for adding other pieces.

I wouldn't give Darko more than a 7 year/48 million (6.85/year) and he would have to show more than what he has to even get that. I'm glad Otis Smith decided to wait on this deal.

Darko is putting up good numbers for 19 minutes. 7.6 points and 5.1 rebounds is pretty damn solid for 19 mins. You HAVE to play him more. Give him more time please!

Raef Lafrentz can put this number's up. Darko needs to be a presence, and he hasn't yet. He isn't worth anything but MLE at this point.

    edit: Hey I'm copying Shape.

I would give Darko a $60 million dollar deal if it was for like 30yrs. He hasn't done much yet and needs to play more first.

I agree... we need to get his feet wet a bit and see what he's capable of. We will NOT pay him that much money if he doesn't prove anything to anyone.

He WILL get a bigger deal then all of us would pay for him. That's just the way that the market for bigs works. He will compare himself to others and figure out that he deserves a lot of money. Kelvin Cato got 7.5 mil a year and Darko is better and has more potential then Cato had. He will get a bigger deal then Jameer, fair or not.

My prediction is he gets no less than 8-9 million a year and if we do it for 6 years, that would be around 48-54 million minimum for him just in the way that he's playing now and with the potential that he shows. He could make more, depending on if he takes over the starting spot and produces there. I still really wish we would give him 30 minutes a game, just to see what he's capable of producing.

I wouldn't be disappointed giving him that much money either. Young talented bigs are very rare these days and with Dwight and Jameer set to get big extensions, it's not very likely that we will be in the running for a FA anytime soon(after this offseason), so why not lock him up to a big deal. So I feel locking up 2 21 year old Top 2 pick bigs and a college POY long term would be great for our organization, assuming the owner isn't worried about paying the luxury tax still.
