I know that when Le bron came into the league he was team mates with boozer... then the next year he was shipped out and gooden was in... why didnt the cavs resign him? the Trio of James hughes and Boozer would have done a lot of damage
Boozer allegedly reached a verbal understanding that if the Cavs did not exercise their option on him (therefore he would become a restricted free agent), he would sign a multi-year extension with them and not sign any other offer sheets with other teams, even if they were for more money. However, he signed to an offer sheet with the Utah Jazz and the Cavs could not afford to match the offer. You can't still be mad at this. Utah offered him 30 million more then the Cavs, how many of you would turn that down? As this whole promise/understanding he had with the Calvs...how many times does a team say they aren't gonna trade a player then the go and flip them when they think its necessary? They calvs should have qualified him, giving him the 650,000 to play the final year of his contract, then try to resign him. They wanted to save big money and they got burned.
The Cavs deserve just as much blame in the incident. They made an illegal agreement with him while he was under contract. Then, when they declined the option and he went for the extra $30 million (I mean who would really turn that down?) they couldn't say anything. If they claimed that Boozer went back on an agreement then they probably would've been punished by the league. They thought they could save some money by doing an under the table agreement and signing him early, but it blew up in their face.
Here's the story I heard...... The Cavs & Boozer did make that deal, but then when free agency did start, they stop getting in contact with him. A week went by without them even trying to negotiate with him, and they were talking to other free agents instead of him, so Boozer told his agent to go out and find the best deal he could find, and that was the Utah offer. Then he signed the offer sheet, and story got out about it, then the Cavs GM got on the phone with Boozer, telling him he was a backstabber and how they thought they had a deal. That's how the whole thing got started, if you didn't get talked to for a week, wouldn't you think they didn't want you or wondering what was going on? Here's a sidenote: Boozer has never played in a game against Cleveland @ home or in Cleveland. He's always had a mystery injury and then he had the Hamstring injury last year.
