I always want to cheer for players, and give the W's support. I'm a fan of Dunleavy and will continue to hope he progresses and does well, like last nights 22 point game.

Here's an article quoting J-Rich about the fans reaction to Dunleavy.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"I've been with Mike for five years. I know it gets to him," Richardson said. "He wants to do good and they don't give him a chance. I wish our fans would give him a chance."</div>

Mike is a professional, he shouldn't let it get to him or else it will affect his game. And J-Rich is wrong about us not giving him a chance, we gave him 4 years. Many as a starter. Many times a dissapointment. I'm not asking for him to put those numbers up, all I want from Dunleavy is consistency and more passion/aggression. A lot of us may not be Dunleavy fans, but don't get us wrong, we also continue to hope he progresses and do well.

And his contract is a load of bull. Anyway, he'll slump again soon enough. Happens every season, then when he breaks out Dunleavy fans come and say he's great. Then he slumps again and Dunleavy fans are quiet. It's a vicious cycle that will stop WHEN he becomes consistent.

Dunleavy does get more blame than he deserves. It's not his fault that he was drafted in 3rd. For some strange reason, many fans expect a franchise players out of him just because he was drafted in 3rd, when it was rather clear that his upside was no more than a solid starter from the day one. When that expectation wasn't met, half of fans started to bash Dunleavy for not being a star, and another half of fans start to protect Dunleavy by saying 'he just wasn't in the right situation'. Also, it's not his fault that Jamison was traded, and he received that fat extension. I don't know it's because of many fan's undying love toward Mullin, but most of blame went toward Dunleavy instead of Mullin. If he wasn't drafted at 3rd and didn't receive that fat extension, people wouldn't be that hard toward Dunleavy.

That has been said, Dunleavy should be ashamed that he still don't have a solid NBA jumper after all these years. I don't know how Jamison has better jumper than Dunleavy now, when Jamison's range was 5 ft and Dunleavy was regarded as a pure shooter in their rookie seasons. To make things worse, Jamison still was a player without jump shot, Dunleavy desperately needed jumper to survive in NBA. Yet, Jamison developed a solid jumper, and Dunleavy couldn't. He definitely deserves to get booed for that.

Whether fans have right reasoning or not, the boo will continues on Dunleavy. Because, he frustarted fans for last 4 years. The only way to stop the booing is by playing better, because he won't get any style point or sympathy point from fans...

Anime, when a captain and leader of the team asks to give someone another chance, the least we can do, is do it. What can it hurt? Dunleavy has done well coming off of the bench. If he swings games in the Warriors favor and it translates into a playof run, why boo? I mean, he looked great last night... the crowd should cheer for him harder on those days.

I don't mind him coming off the bench, he does better off the bench as we've seen. And I'm impressed that Nellie didn't start Dunleavy just cause he did well past few games, but noticed that he did better off the bench as well. I never said I boo'ed him. I'm just tired of his consistent inconsistency. Hopefully he's consistent off the bench.

I'm sorry -- but how much of a chance does a guy need? He was the 3rd pick in the draft, has played 4 years, and was given a starter's contract. It's not like he just walked into town and is getting booed. Fans are fed-up with seeing almost NO improvement from Dun between years 1 and 4. Really -- almost none.

That being said, I don't boo at games because it's poor sportsmanship. I do, however, boo at home when DUN--the supposed "point" forward OMG--throws a lazy one-handed pass for an easy steal, or gets caught in between playing defense or taking one of his half-ass charges, such that the guy can easily finish the shot and go to the freethrow line. It's like "fuk Dun, either actually play defense--you know, the way your dad, the coach, teaches the game... actually try to play the game, try to play defense--or get the hell out of the way. Don't stand there, like you're going to take a pansy-charge, except put your hands up in the air (which earns a fould call by the ref) and also close your eyes, turn your head and fade-away from the player so that he can climb you, put his jock in your face, easily score the lay-up or dunk, and get a freebie freethrow courtesy of your faulty approach to the game.

I believe Dun deserves a ton of criticism, but of course I am also rooting for him to do well. And I was stoked when he was scoring last night. I was bummed by his defense, but I was also bummed by Baron's lame-ass fade-away jumpers. That's a terrible shot that Baron consistently insists on shooting, for some reason. The difference is that Baron has earned the right to do whatever he wants on the court. Dunleavy has done really nothing to earn the faith of the fans. I'm hoping he will, this year. Who knows, maybe year 14 will be the break-out year for Dun, he'll be completely bald, 35 years old, and average 20 a game in a contract year that nets him a big deal with the Wizards. who knows?

The guy has had plenty of chances on this team. He was gift wrapped a starting position and failed miserably for 3-4 seasons. Has has shown consistently that he can not hit a wide open 3 or free throws which is what he was most highly touted to do. I am ready for him to be gone and I NEVER thought we should have extended him. It is one thing to match a contract, but to extend him with no competition for his services! You only do that for a player like Jrich, Garnett etc...

Yeah, by extending like that, Mullin was essentially saying that if he waited, Dunleavy would be worth more next year and that by signing him early he was thereby getting a steal... lol.

I was a Dunleavy hater, now I'm just a Dunleavy heckler. [IMG]

I like Dunleavy's fundamentals and fluidity with the ball when he handles it, but I don't think he's a player that belongs in the starting rotation for our team. His shooting is so overrated and with his footspeed and the rest of his game the way ti is, he needs it. He doesn't really post up like Sam Cassell or use that deceptive quickness of his to make something happen. It's because his shooting can be garbage quite often. I mean he takes maybe 5 or 6 shots a game, but some of them don't even come close.

He was given a lot of chances to start, but I don't think he fits in with the current "team" and neither does Murphy. If Jrich is the closest thing we have to a 20 per night scorer that gets double team attention. Build it more around that kind of player. Of course that brings up problems of its own. Is Jrich a shooting guard? No, not really. It's a huge dilemma. We all know it. If we're building around a scorer, we better hope he creates well and handles double team pressure without turning the ball over. We hope he becomes a better passer. That's not Jrich, but he's certainly more likely to dish it off because he makes at least one guy get open. They play off guys like Dunleavy and Murphy because they know they will shoot it. Nobody would guard Foyle because they know he can't catch well and he's really slow and clumsy trying to finish inside. We're talking about the franchise leader of blowing wide open layups and open lane dunks. How does he survive in this league?

Second, the addendum: In the note about Jason Richardson wanting fans to lay off Mike Dunleavy, I didn't get a chance to add in Dunleavy's comments from after Tuesday's game. This is what he said about getting booed during the Pistons' blowout: "It's not an issue for me. People can boo, cheer, do whatever. My job is to come out and play. Honestly, I could really care less what they do."..."</div>

At least he's saying the right things. I'm never a fan of booing your team. Now if Dundun gets traded, and comes into town, boo away. Or if he flips the crowd off or something, then it's justified.

Also, I never claimed that you actually booed... I was just inferring that you were stating that the captain is wrong for stating his opinion.

    Just my $0.02.

Agreed 100% but that's not what JRich was saying. He was saying that he personally believes in Dunleavy, and in a way asked the Warrior fans not to boo him, without coming out and saying it.

Teammates love Dunleavy I bet. He is an unselfish player and everyone loves playing with those guys. Baron, Jrich at least they know they'll get the ball back if Dunleavy gets it. The most annoying thing teammates probably think of Dunleavy is that he misses shots and he's very passive because of that. It's like his mental game sucks and being here on the Warriors has broken him down a bit. It's like he's gotten worse from the field, he's missing from the foul line, and he's not even attacking the hoop that much even though he probably could taken more athletic defenders that play up on him. If one has large steps, they can beat most guys going side to side if they are crowding the shooter. But most defenders do not respect Dunleavy as a shooter.

The label of shooter is not right for him. He's a utility player. And he's being paid hansdomely for that. He was booed the other night for missing a 3 point shot when he had 15 in the 1st half. I mean, give me a break. People miss shots.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I based my opinion in this:

    </div>

Which is exactly what I was saying. Dunleavy is saying the right things. And JRich the leader of the team is letting us know that perhaps some players are harder on themselves than others. If you want to get the best out of Dunleavy, then don't boo him. Make's sense? What good does booing him do, other than potentially make him play worse. Will that make it any easier to trade his heavy contract? Out of respect for Richardson (remember the ad he put in the paper) people should lay off.

Yeah I hardly ever boo at games. I didn't even boo Jamison because it wasn't even his choice to stay or not stay. I boo Sprewell though.

Do not boo Nick Van Exel because that is a big mistake. His knee bones and knee ligaments will reconstitute themselves from powdered bone/tissue and he will score 30 on us if we do. Including running, shot from the hip from halfcourt at the buzzer.

I booed Foyle though. That guy sucks whenever I watch him play. Dunleavy is usually good when I go in person. But I only go when I get free tix.

Simply stupidity. He's a guy who tries hard every minute he's on the floor and has never complained once in public about lack of minutes, lack of touches, lack of wins. Isn't that enough?

Wait Foyle or Dunleavy? or both?

I was just booing at Foyle because it was funny the way he missed the easy dunk and everyone else was laughing or booing. Then I realized all he's given the franchise was effort, but that's not really good enough... He also complained some in the papers about how Montgomery lost faith in him and all this other stuff about him being a hidden offensive talent and not being used right. Now Dunleavy on the other hand is a basketball player at least. I never boo that guy, but I groan whenever he misses the shot or flops against smaller guys. He can also be severely misinterpreted in the papers when he complains about not being used right. Foyle, how else can we use that guy besides shotblockin???

    I meant Dunleavy.

As for Foyle, its just sad that he was magnificent as Damp's backup then in extended minutes we got less. His hands are awful and he's undersized. I still think he's a great ambassador.

I said I would give the team one month before I evaluate their position in comparison to the rest of the league. That also goes for Dunleavy. I'm a fan of his game because he plays it right and within his limits. I try not to look at his contract, his draft position, and so on and so forth. I will admit that expectations of him becoming a star in the NBA is a pipe dream. But, I think under Nellie's system, he should be able to flourish (like last night against the Raptors) on a more <u>consistent</u> basis. Like I said, give it a month.

Well, we kinda want a production. I mean, for 4.5 mils per year, you will see me giving 120% on the court. But that doesn't necessary mean that's enough. And, he may play hard every minute. But, having a tofu body, which crumbles at every contact, and habit of going invisible time to time don't necessary give an impression that he gives 100%. He actually came out and indirectly ripped teammates last year for three times as well.

Let's face it. If Dunleavy improved from his rookie season and consistantly hit those open jumpers, he wouldn't hear boos from fans. And, there is no excuse for him not to improve his jumper, when everybody know his game will expand so much with consistant jumper. Dunleavy may not deserve all boos he gets, but he definitely deserves some...
