A big rumor that is going around the internet right now is that Tracy McGrady will be retiring once his current contract comes to an end, which is three years from now. Apparently Tracy said this on TNT earlier today which came as a surprise to many people because he is still young. If this rumor is true, an article will probably be available later tonight or tomorrow about it. Thoughts?
Oh and also, he said it was due to the many injuries he suffered throughout his career. He takes a beating and he feels his body will be worn down in three years.

Well it's not like we're gonna max out his contract for another 3 years. That's good for us, if he feels that he can no longer contribute, why the heck would we keep him? He's doing us a favor by not forcing us to sign him to a ridiculous extension. It's 3 years from now, we may or may not have a ring, but if we don't that'll be when Yao truly is at his prime (I hope).

Aww man. The guy is young. Look at Iverson for example, the guy has tons of injuries and falls on the floor all the time and he is still averaging 29 ppg at the age of 31, Tmac shouldn't retire.

Do you think if he felt really good, he would just retire? He's 27, but he might feel like he is playing in a 37 year old body. Just my two sense on it.

As long as he honors his contract, how can anyone be angry at him for the decision? Anyways, it's quite possible he changes his mind when the time comes. It will depend on how he's feeling at the time.

I agree with durvasa. There's no real reason why he has to play until his late 30's, like every other player. While you don't like to see a player lose their passion for the game, he's not doing something as bad as demanding a trade or not honouring his contract. Interesting Question: If he retires, can the Francis-McGrady trade be labelled lose-lose after originally being called a win-win scenario?
In some ways, I respect him more for making a decision like this. It seems as if he probably wants to spend more time with his family. You dont see too many superstars giving up that stardom at such a young age.

Why would you say that when T-Mac still has 3 years left on his contract? Maybe this is T-Mac's way of saying this is Yao's team, and that he is also considering retiring after his contract ends. If he wants to spend time with his family, it doesn't bother me. As long as he out plays his contract this seasonm, well now it's just too high of a contract to outplay, but if he outplays 80% of it - around a $ 15 mill star contract - I'll be happy. I think Yao has been off the past 2 games, because he has had to face Curry, Shaq, Duncan, and Wallace all in the same week. I like T-Mac becoming a playmaker first then a scorer. As long as he steps it up in the playoffs, I'll be happy...plus it will help keep him healthy for however many years is left in his career. *Thinking about Rocket-Mavs, Game 7, 40 point blowout* we are going to need T-Mac creating for our role players and Yao. Both Yao and T-Mac were having good nights, but our role players were shut down. I kind of wish we kept Rudy Gay.
