Jim Grey spoke with Bonzi, and said Bonzi said he's ready to go but JVG doesn't think so. WTF are you doing!!!! Making Bonzi an example at this point is only hurting ur team's chances to win. PLAY THE GUY! Nobody is 100% comin in the season. At this point, he needs to be out there. This could get ugly if JVG doesn't smarten up.
Bonzi Wells came in about 30 or 40 pounds overweight, and he's shown almost no respect for the team and the amount of work it takes to play well ("It's just basketball, blah, blah, blah"). I knew the guy was a headcase, but I couldn't have imagined he'd be this much of a jerk. He doesn't want to sit with the team during games. He's laughing it up on his cell phone in the lockerroom after losses. He constantly belittles the effort and attention to detail needed to be successful on the court. If I was the Rockets, there's no way I'd give in to him unless he gets his act together. He needs the playing time (for his next contract) more than we need him.

You over value Chuck Hayes, but then downplay Bonzi's significance to this team. We NEED Bonzi if we're serious about winning a ring this year. Theres no other way to put that. I don't know about the accusations you put on him, but Jim Grey said he spoke to Bonzi while he was workin out. Which would imply that he's makin a effort to get in shape, but by "JVG standards" he's still not in shape. This is ridiculous! The coach that'll sign a outta shape Rod Strickland, but will refuse to play Bonzi Wells. He's simply tryna make an example outta Bonzi, but we don't have time to playin mind games. PLAY HIM!! Let him work his way back into shape on the court. STOP BEIN A D*CK HEAD JVG
<div class="quote_poster">Rock4life Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">You over value Chuck Hayes, but then downplay Bonzi's significance to this team.</div> Hilarious that you'd mention Chuck Hayes here when you've been dead wrong about him so far. If I over valued Chuck Hayes, it certainly wasn't anywhere near to the extent that you under valued him. But that discussion is for another thread. The Rockets will regret giving Bonzi a free pass. If he can't show the proper respect to the team, he doesn't deserve to play. He played like crap before because he was out of shape. It's not like we're really missing out on a great player right now.
Rockets have the upper hand here bcause if Bonzi doesnt get his act together then he doesnt see a contract next season. He has to play to do that.
Did anyone else hear Jonathan Feigen (Rockets beat writer) on 610am today afternoon? I only caught a snippet of it. He was talking about how the coaches love Chuck Hayes, and how he was talking to other team's scouts and they were also raving about him. One of the scouts told Feigen that they consider Chuck to be one of the very best defensive PFs in the league. That put a smile on my face. Basically confirms what I was saying last Spring.
I think the Rockets should give Bonzi a chance even if he is a tad overweight. Who knows how he will contribute, and maybe getting a taste of playing time will motivate him to get into shape.

He seemed like a Charles Barkley even, with his added weight taking away much of his quickness on the perimeter, leaving backing defenders down his only option. Against the Hornets in his most recent game, he squandered plenty of opportunities, and if he doesn't want to stick with the team and wants to branch off by himself, then to hell with him.

Even Tmac looked a little flabby at times this season. My question to JVG is why in the HELL are you tryin to make a statement? Let the man play. If he goes out there and embarrass's himself, then you trade him. Simple as that. But by NOT giving him any playin time and simply trying to flex ur muscle ur basically playin silly mind games instead of trying to win ball games. "I came here to win not to run a marathon" is what Bonzi said to Jim Grey. I have to agree with him.........
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">But I still say we're seeing a better-than-ever Yao, even if the Rockets are routinely blowing big leads and still crying out for an in-shape Bonzi Wells … which, incidentally, I'm told isn't that far off.</div><a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dailydime-061118-19" target="_blank"> Daily Dime</a>
I mean if you go party when the rest of the team is practicing you shouldn't be on the team. Source hoopshype
I think TmacGarnett posted saying that clutchfans have said that Bonzi is cleared to play in today's game. So we might see Bonzi today against Wizards. We needed a good spark off the bench, and lets see if Bonzi can do something after not playing bball for months.
Ya, I'm reading on numerous places that Bonzi is scheduled to play. The only thing that makes me skeptical about this is that it is not official and the ESPN game preview has Bonzi on inactive list.
Dang it, so anything can happen. I guess since we lost Snyder to the hand injury, we need some help at the backup 2 position. Bonzi might not be a full 100% but I guess JVG is gonna let him play since we kind of need him at this point.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">When the Rockets returned to the Toyota Center practice court on Wednesday, but Bonzi Wells was not there. Wells, who had not been traveling with the team while working on his conditioning, did not go through the Rockets' shootaround or an individual workout for what Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy termed "personal reasons." "It's a personal, family issue," Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson said. Dawson would not elaborate. Wells also missed nearly a week of training camp for personal reasons and has played in only two games this season before Van Gundy said that Wells needed to get in better condition in order to play. "Today, he wasn't here for personal reasons," Van Gundy said. "That's the only thing I'm prepared to say." Asked if Wells would be available for the Rockets' next practice, Van Gundy said, "I don't know. I really don't want to get into hypotheticals because I really don't know. I don't want to take a stab at it. "I understand the fascination, I really do, but I'm not prepared to go beyond what I just said." Wells had said last week in an interview with TNT that he did not come to Houston "to run marathons." "I said really basically what I want to say, but I understand everybody's fascination and speculation, certainly," Van Gundy said. "I think evasive is in everybody's best interest. "When a guy has personal problems, you want me to tell you what the personal problems are. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to get into his personal issues. The more I expand my answer on the whys I think would be hurting the trust that you have to have in a relationship. I'm not going to discuss all this through the media. "I owe it to the fans, speaking through (the media), a certain amount, but I'm not prepared to go past that even though it might satisfy the growing appetite for knowledge about Bonzi's situation." Van Gundy would not say if Wells was physically ready to play. "He wasn't here today for personal reasons," Van Gundy said. "There have been a lot of things that have gotten in the way of him being on the court. To go in depth on each and every one to me is not right.</div>Apparently, Wells isn't playing today. And before Rocklife goes off bashing JVG again, I'd like to point out it's for personal reasons and that he's not there...
Last time Bonzi had "personal issues", it was really a cover for a spat between him and JVG. No reason to think it's any different this time.
Its possible it actually is personal issues, but teams in the past have been known to try to downplay things understandably. As the media likes to divide player against coach and fans against coach or fans against player.
Another personal issue again? I know it's very hard to condition yourself in a small amount of time but you must be dedicated and disciplined if you want to play right away. Probably he got tired and just want a break. Until how long can we have to wait?
