<div class="quote_poster">Gotrunks226 Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I like the Memphis deal, except for the Mike Miller part.. Maybe Swift or Warrick or something along those lines.. since Miller has a big contract with long years and not known for his defense. And if Raptors did get Gasol, you'd have 3 key players on the Spanish team, which gives you good chemistry between them.. Bosh and Gasol would be sickness.</div> mike miller is awesome, u really have to watch him carefully over an extended period of time. he's a poor man's peja, minus the playoff stage fright
<div class="quote_poster">deception Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">cause the odds are on my side, most players who show flashes don't become superstars. nevertheless, its not about bargnani, as much as its about a sure thing in gasol and milk miller, who's awesome fyi. plus, i think gasol compliments bosh better, bargnani will never be a banger which relegates bosh to be one, which sacrifices his offensive versatility, i.e. his ability to shoot from the outside and blow by his defender. as an example- last night he banged all night with big Z and varejo that he was out of gas by crunch time. conversely, gasol is already a very qualified nba banger which gives chris the freedom to expand his offensive game.</div> This is an explanation as to why we should make the trade. Which is cool i agree that i would probably make the trade...although i feel Memphis is probably getting the short end of the stick and probably would ask us to throw in a future first rounder to make it happen. I was just wondering if you saw something in Bargnani, like a fatal flaw that in your mind would keep him from becoming a superstar. Cause i really like what i have seen from him so far.

<div class="quote_poster">asdf Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Uumm... I hate to say this, but Pau isn't going to leave Memphis unless they get a proven star like Bosh in return. A Gasol and Bosh combo would be a nightmare though....</div> I kinda agree with this to a point ... It doesn't make sense from Memphis point of view to dump a star just for Salary considerations. They may want to put their own mark on the team but it's hard to argue that's the best way to do it. On the other hand a lot of teams are structuring themselves for the big free agent season when the CBA expires in a few years ... so not having a star can be mitigated by having cap space when you can sign one.

The strategy, outlined in confidential information obtained by The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, indicates that the owners plan to use their basketball knowledge to find bargain-priced talent while maintaining a playoff-caliber team. The newspaper is also reporting that the information indicates the team has 2006 losses of $29.7 million, but under new management could be profitable by the end of the 2008-09 NBA season. According to The Commerical Appeal report, the former Duke teammates plan to fund their purchase of Michael Heisley's 70-percent majority share by selling approximately $170 million worth of "ownership units" of their Grizzly Acquisition Holdings LLC. Ownership units will start at $2 million. A $10 million investment buys representation on the advisory committee that will provide input on operations and strategic direction. But "ultimate discretion for most matters, including the budget," will rest with Davis and Laettner. </div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2673750
Just because their in a financial rut doesn't mean that they're going to completely kill off their biggest piece of the puzzle... Think about it, if they trade away Gasol for a bunch of unproven players, than that's going to lead to poorer ticket sales and even more losing.
I wouldn't trade Bargnani, but I would trade Fred Jones + another player [not Peterson] for a proven wing contributor.
Why are we even talkin about this? This is just an idea from one of thousands of fans out there. This kind of thread makes this forum look stooooooooooooopid

i mean, it would be pretty awesome to see all three spaniards out on the floor. i think the chemistry will be boosted tremendously.

This thread has gotten 2 pages of discussion...thats not half bad. Playing the "lets talk about trades" game can be kind of fun...if you disagree with the idea presented, then bring it up and discuss it...if you think the thread makes the forum look stupid then dont post. To me, presenting a trade idea doesnt look half as bad as typing something like what you did

Yeah.. both those trades are real nice to think about, but neither will ever happen.. both would be absolute steals for the Raptors. Baragni has so many question marks that you trade his potential for a guy like Gasol in a fucking heartbeat. On top of that: you get a better shooter in Mike Miller than what Mo Pete is, and you trade away Rasho's ugly contract. It'll never happen.
