This is not for the Bruce Bowens of this page, this is for the art of scoring. I have spent countless hours just watching people like Kobe (everything), Jordan (mid range), Carmelo Anthony (everything), Ray Allen (shooting, footwork), Stephon Marbury (penetration), Lamar Odom (everything), Barkley, George Gervin, Reggie Miller (using screens), Rip Hamiton (see Reggie) etc, get open and how they use their strengths to get open shots. My friends and I argue about this from time to time and I honestly believe this.. Melo is a better scorer than D Wade and Lebron. I Know LeBron has better numbers but his physical advantage is incredible, he didnt even have much of a game outside the 3 point line, and still avg. 20 his first year in the L. Melo can go inside n outside, back to the basket, or face up, in transition or out of a set. If ur too close, he'll get around you, too far away, its in your eye. He uses a series of head fakes, foot fakes, ball fakes etc. D wade doesnt have much of a shot out to the 3 point line, granted he can get to the rack whenever he wants and his mid range game is nasty. Anywho, i wanna kno what u guys think a complete scorer needs. feel free to disagree.

A complete scorer is one who scores at will when the clock is running out. A complete scorer never met a shot he didn't like. A complete scorer is not complete without indulging in other stats such as rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, and more. A complete scorer is many forms. A complete scorer can be Allen Iverson. A complete scorer can be Tracy McGrady. A complete scorer scores with his eyes closed.
Carmelo Anthony only can and is getting better and better with each game he plays. Ever since the draft with LeBron and Carmelo, I always felt 'Melo was the scorer, and 'Bron was the better overall player. I think 'Melo's post skills are unrivaled, and I want to see him post up in the paint more, and get these fouls.

A complete scorer pretty much sums itself up. A guy that scores from everywhere, capable of scoring in any way possible, whether it's attacking the basket for a trip to the line, knocking down a tough mid-range J off the dribble or simply spotting up for a three pointer in the corner.

A guy like Carmelo Anthony, Gilbert Arenas, Ray Allen or Jalen Rose (when he puts his mind to it and neglects his defense even further) are what I view as complete scorers.

Jason Richardson is a guy that's getting there, but he still relies a lot on his altheticism.

Actually nah, you mix up between a complete scorer and a complete player. Everything else, you say it right.

If you want to know who is the best complete scorer, well just ask the Toronto Raptors' players. [IMG]

I think complete scorers are usually small forwards. The very good ones have the ability to shoot, take someone off the dribble, and post up their defender on the offensive end. That doesn't necessarily mean they are better scorers, though.

Honestly i haven't been able to watch much of Melo but in a way i have to dissagree with your point. I just feel that a complete scorer is someone that can score well every possible way. Physical advantage shouldn't be put into effect. That being said i don't feel either of Lebron dwade or melo are complete scorers. They will be in a few years but they just aren't yet. Sure Lebron and Wade are almost at the point where they can't be stoped going to the bucket. But their shooting just isn't there yet. Melo is an all around great scorer but he isn't there yet in a few ways. Dont get me wrong all three of these players are still great players and i just haven't watched them enough to compare them. There are very few complete scorers in the league so the fact that i think all three of these players will be shows how good they are.

Also i wanted to put this in another post because i wanted everyone to see this. Ive heard alot of names in this thread and i thought everyone should watch this guy play if they want to see the complete scorer. I am a Celtics fan so i have watched alot of their games for a while. I honestly feel if you are interested in seeing a complete scorer then watch a celtics game and you will see that Paul Peirce is an amazing scorer and shows why those three great rising stars just arent complete scorers. Paul peirce has been scoring for years and he know every single trick to scoring. Sure he can drain 3's and almost every mid range jumper he takes, and he can drive to the bucket and score too. But it's the experiance that seperates him from the younger players. He has mastered getting people into the air and drawing the foul and no one does it better. He's a great shooter and he can shoot in peoples face because they expect him to look for the foul and dont try and block him. Hes a great free throw shooter. Hes great at driving he can dunk over defenders or he can draw the mid air foul and is very good at getting the and one. He uses picks and pump fakes to perfection. He always amazes me at how good he is at going down low and scoring. Step backs, fade aways, hook shots and more there isnt a way he can't score. Paul Peirce is the complete scorer.

paul pierce really is one of the most complete scorers in the nba, he has the total package. if your looking for the most complete scorers than kobe, melo, and pierce would all be the tops. but as far as the BEST scorers i would still say Kobe and Iverson are tied for first, and melo right behind them. When McGrady is on fire he can be just as unstoppable as anyone in the league.

I would say the most complete scorer would be Wilt Chamberlain. His stats speak for themselves. I would consier Kobe at 2nd. I will admit I am biased with the notion that Chamberlain scored 100, and Kobe has the second highest point total in a game.

For the NBA today, I'd pick Carmelo Anthony. He can post the best out of the guards/forwards who have a great outside game. Reminds me of Jamal Mashburn, but with a much, much more versatile game.

Vince Carter and Kobe are the most can-score-from-anywhere-nomatterwhoseguarding-them players in the league. They routinely make impossible shots around crowded rims contorting their bodies. T-Mac is the runner up. Le Bron Dwade next rung down. After that AI and Dirk...

TMac in his Orlando days was probably one of the most unstoppable scorers i've ever witnessed.

are you joking?!?!?!?WTF! wilt is one of my all time favourites, but to say he is the most complete scorer is just flat out stupid.wilt was bigger than Shaq in his day, he played the post game, and ONLY the post game, he did not shoot from anywhere near the 3point line is, he played textbook back to the basket, back your man down post basketball, nothing more. just because he scored alot it doesnt make him a "complete" scorer, just a very good one(from under the ring)

Complete scorers should have a post-game, mid-range game, 3point range, make layups with either hand, and high FT%.

    Kobe Bryant
    Dirk Nowitzki
    Paul Pierce
    Ray Allen
    Steve Nash
    Carmelo Anthony
    Tracy McGrady
    Sam Cassell

Off the top of my head these players all fit the description.

Jerry Stackhouse is and has been an iffy shooter throughout his career. He's more of a slasher I think.

Jerry Stackhouse may be able to do the latter, but it doesn't mean he's great at it.
