theres a fine line between initiating contact and getting fouled, and flying by someone doing a 360, slamming the ball on the floor, and screaming like he broke his arm, when the replay shows that he was barely touched. like in the game on TNT the other night when wade drove to the hoop and was barely touched on the small of his back by Wallace, and all of the sudden just flipped out of control and was on the ground for 5 minutes. wade is an excellent player but he shouldnt need to over react to everything.
From what I've seen refs are extra sensitive to Wade in particular. If you go near Wade on the perimeter he's going to the line. DWade also creats a ton of blocking foul And 1's when he pulls to a stop in the lane - those ones are just dumb.

Iverson attacks the basket more than wade does and takes a beating every night. wade on the other hand flops, fakes a limp, stays down for an extra 10 minutes taking a rest, and then goes back and scores 40. i've seen some of the most terrible calls for wade so far this season, the refs will give him everything.</div> Fiction, actually Wade attacks the basket more than Iverson, and he also takes a beating. Haven't people the last two years been saying Wade can't maintain his way of play without getting injured. I remember in 04-05, there were some who were relating him to Penny in that he would get injured. Wade 33% of total attempts in the paint, Iverson 25%. Then 43% of Iverson's total attempts are early in the clock (primary or secondary break), while only 31% of Wade's. So Wade is venturing into the paint more, and also more during halfcourt sets. Attempts only count when a shot is recorded as being taken, and if you're fouled without an AND 1, the shot is not recorded, so based on the fact that Wade attempts more in the paint and more in halfcourt settings, who do you think drives more? Like Arenas said in his blog: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">What’s going on, I figured it out. On the road, you know, you don’t want to settle for shots on the road. What I’m doing, I’m trying to go to the basket all day on the road. I don’t want to shoot on the road. I want to go to the bucket. So me going to the bucket, now the refs are saying, they have this rule or this little saying they’ve been telling me for the last 14 games that I’m creating the contact. I’m throwing my body into the defender. Well, as an offensive player, that’s what you’re supposed to do. It’s a game of angles. You beat him to the basket, you cut off his angle, that’s called smart basketball. So, I mean, if they want to just tell me I’m smarter than most defenders … I’ll take that.</div> I'll make it known to you that Arenas is far from being the only perimeter player that knows and does this. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He isn't crying, he is stating facts It is a joke how much Wade gets away with. His flopping is getting almost as bad as Vlade Divac's was. Anything is a foul when he attacks the basket <u>these days</u>. Great quote from Sheed. Got to love him.</div> Is this really true? Everyone wants to say Wade is getting so many calls because he's a star now and the league loves him, but is that actually based on fact? Wade in his second season, before he was a "star", this is when Lebron and Carmelo were still the highlight of the group, averaged 9.9 FTA/G. His highest FTA month was November, the first month of the season, where he averaged 11.1 FTA/G. You know that no one was complaining then about him getting too many calls, actually most were praising him for not settling for jumpshots like other perimter guys. So he actually didn't start getting the treatment after they said oh, he's good now, let's give him calls. He was not considered a star yet, the league wasn't "marketing him", but he was getting calls. In addition, when Wade and Lebron were rookies, with Lebron being the big name, and taking more shots, Wade got the the line slightly more PER minute than Lebron did, and this was also in a season where he had a fair amount of injuries. These facts, as opposed to opinions, make it hard for me to belive he's just getting calls because he's a star. He's been getting them since he came in the league, because of how he plays, and like I said, how he attacks the basket also plays into this.
<div class="quote_poster">Montaman Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">He certainly does get a favorable whistle, but I never noticed him getting any more in the way of star calls than Kobe does.</div> so you're saying kobe gets more undeserved free throws??? you are either saying this because either A. you are a wade fan or B. you dont like kobe

^Don't pretend to be unbiased yourself. We all know Kobe gets his share of calls. He just doesn't get as many as Wade because he settles for jumpers all game. Great points btw og15.
I agree that Wade gets his share of calls but so does Kobe. Wade averages only 2 more free throw attempts per game. I like what Arenas said that it's his job as an offensive player so throw his budy into the defender so he can get to the line. Wade just attacks the basket more than anybody else in the league and a good amount of the time he really does get fouled.
if kobe gets the free throws so easily why wont the other nba players and coaches complain about kobe too (especially since you said he even gets more ***** calls than wade)? kobe gets all sorts of contact on his way up when he gets fouled, you should watch a few laker games

Wade gets a lot of contact as well..I love how people fail to see the times that Wade gets tons of contact which is most of the time.
i never said he never actually gets fouled, but there are frequent questionable fouls (not most of the calls, just some). kobe might have got some of those fouls too, but not as much as wade
Maybe this is the result of me being a fan of a perennial loser, but I'm pretty humorless about superstar foul calls. Do I think Wade gets them? Yes. Does Kobe Bryant get them as well? Absolutely. Whether Wade or Kobe gets more on any given night is dependent on their styles of play. Kobe likes to hoist from outside more than Wade (I'm pretty sure, not looking at numbers, but I feel pretty confident saying that), and when a superstar always takes it inside, they'll get calls. Shaquille O'Neal, in particular, has received a careerful of favorable calls, some of which boggle the mind upon repeat viewing. He's been able to club, shove, or elbow defenders aside in ways that are illegal for any player save apparently him. There's no statistic for crappy calls, so there's no way to quantify this. But i'll go to the grave knowing in my heart that it's true. That last part sounded more dramatic than it is. Really, when I'm heading for the grave, I'll probably just wish I could eat a tasty sandwich first, or maybe some yellow curried chicken.

Find some evidence of yao "over-reacting" and I'll show you some video's of Wade.
Yes! Thank you so much for finally saying this, Sheed. We can always count on you. This is the very reason I've been wearing this sig:

When you're moving as quick as Wade does, what seems like a very small amount of contact or a "tick-tack" foul actually has quite a big effect on his momentum. Yah, you're right, getting poked in the eye does hurt, but so does going to the floor after getting fouled on drives to the basket. I'm not saying Wade doesn't over-react, I'm saying that every player does- even Yao. Hell, I sometimes over-react to draw the refs attention to the fact I'm getting fouled. It's called smart basketball if you're trying to win, everybody does it, and if you don't, then you probably suck. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes! That makes absolutely no sense. I see your signature implies a bias as well. Just so you know, I used to really, really like Wade. He WAS great to watch, but do you like watching him shoot free throws all the time? He gets away with it more than Kobe and LeBron, yes, he does. The Finals last year were awful to watch, because of this situation, and it's picking up right where it left off in the regular season. Explain this to me, bud: Dwyane Wade: * Holds the NBA record for most free throws made in an NBA Finals game with 21. (June 18th, 2006 vs. Dallas Mavericks) * Holds the NBA record for most free throws made in a six-game NBA Finals series with 75. [1] [2] * Holds the NBA record for most free throws attempted in a six-game NBA Finals series with 97. [3]
every one talks about wade but ivo is the king of getting to the line. 2005/2006 Ivo-829 fta wade 803 fta these 2 guys get the benifit of the doubt. you cant hate 1 without hating another. these guys are both contact whores. but thats part of the game.

Ironically Wade did not get a bailout call down the stretch in the Clippers game. He was in disbelief, and should have been hit with a technical for complaining. I also noticed Wade still gets away with palming the basketball. The refs have done an outstanding job of making this call, but in the Clipper game Wade was allowed to cup the ball and make a move before making a dribble. I've seen players get whistled for travelling all season long for doing the same thing. Maybe Sheed can shed some light on it during their next game.
I wonder If the new added rules are one of the reasons for the Heat's struggles this year? Yes Shaq is out but they were bad even with him in the line-up.

Antoine Walker was supposed to be the second option after Shaq went down, but he averages more turnovers than assists, and still thinks jacking three's when you aren't making them is good offense.
