When asked if the Magic can win the Eastern Conference, Skip Bayless replied saying, "Yeah, I think they can because Dwight Howard has arrived as the dominant big man in this league, Jameer is way better than I thought he was, and it comes down to the new Orlando center in the East versus the old Orlando center Shaq." The other anchor responded by saying, "Without question, the Magic are a tough, tough team and they're getting it from places we didn't even expect. J.J. Redick, the first round pick, hasn't really played at all. Last year's first round pick from Spain didn't even come over so your talking about a team who will have some money next year to do some things and I think that is where they will make their impact. I don't think they will win the Eastern Conference because team's rarely come out of nowhere." He then said either the Heat or Pistons will win the Eastern Conference. Earlier in the show, they were saying that we have two main problems. 1) We rely too much on Grant Hill who can go down with an injury at any time. 2) We lack a go-to guy because Dwight isn't there yet. Thoughts?
I don't think Orlando relies on Grant that much. He's an important piece that will affect the team if he's gone, but I think guys like Hedo, Dwight, Jameer and even Bogans or Redick can step it up if he's unavailable. Of course Grant brings plenty of intagibles being one of the oldest on the team and is a legit scorer, but the Magic's depth should be able to compensate. A little bit of yes and a little bit of no for the second problem. I think that Dwight is capable of being a 16-20 point scorer on any given night, which is pretty good since the Magic already have plenty of players that can score and the scoring is evenly distributed, meaning that a go-to guy isn't really necessary to go out and score 22 points a night.
They're not go-to guys. Hedo's a nice scorer, but team's aren't going to focus the majority of their game plan on just Hedo or Jameer.
That is the beauty of this team. Their isnt one guy you have to stop in order to beat them. Its not like the days of Tmac, where if a team could stop him the game was over. Dwight is the main focus for most teams, where its double teaming or running a zone, but he is the guy that most teams focus on. If you can limit him, you still have to worry about Jameer, Grant, Hedo and Arroyo who can all put up 16 - 20 pts if need be. This team is more like the Pistons in that manner because they have so many weapons. I think we can go far in the playoffs as long as we can count on Grant.
We've had three different players hit game-winning shots in the past few weeks. The burden is equally distributed, and if one player is having an off-night, there's always someone to step up. Keyon Dooling's 25 point (5-5 from downtown) night epitomizes this.
Skip Bayless is an idiot though, so I don't listen to anything he says even if it is nice about the Magic.

Skip Bayless is pretty bad and I don't understand why they pay him to yell and be pessimistic like MainMan said. Also, remember that thing they used to on ESPN called Old School vs. New School where Bayless would argue with Stephen A. Smith about random topics? I hated that. Who at ESPN decided, "Hey, we should get the two most annoying personalities in the media and put them onscreen together!"

I am so glad I never saw that. You guys ever see the Stephen A. Smith video where he gets heckled by drunks at the draft? I'll post it in the lounge if not.

He just yells and yells and isn't even that knowledgable. How Stephen A. Smith got his own show on ESPN still confuses me to this day. Now that I think about it, which of the following ESPN shows is worst: Cold Pizza (Skip Bayless), Quite Frankly (Stephen A. Smith), or Around the Horn (all those annoying personalites - with the exception of Woody Paige - put into one show).
They're all bad, no doubt. ESPN in general sucks. They have a lot of bad writers too. Hollinger, Ford. That's why NBATV is the best two dollars/month you'll ever spend! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAB5lOIl-2U QUITE FRANKLY, THESE ARE THE BEST CHEESE DOODLES I'VE EVER HAD
Yeah, I bought NBATV too and it's pretty good. There is only two people on ESPN who I like (or can stand). Woody Paige isn't bad and I really like Bill Simmons. His articles are usually pretty funny even if most of them are biased.
i have to say i dont like stephen a that much but his show isnt that bad..when he gets a good guest like kobe, charles barkley and stuff like that he ask's a lot of questions other writes dont and if they try to steer away from it, he always wants an answer.. but like i said only if he has good guests

I saw the one with Kobe and it wasn't terrible. I just hate when he stands there and yells about everything. Also, when he is on the NBA Pregame show, he just yells and disagrees with everyone around him. If Charles Barkley (one of my favorite media personalities) wasn't on that show, I would never watch it. Now that we are on the topic of annoying people working for ESPN, I have to bring up Jim Rome. I've watched his show and listened to his radio show and his voice bugs the hell out of me. His delivery is enough to make me change the channel. Also, on his "Rome Is Burning" show, he stands there yelling as if anyone cares about his opinions. Similar to Stephen A. Smith, his interviews aren't bad but when he's on the air by himself and trying to make little corny jokes is when I go nuts.
