    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dwyane Wade, who teamed with Shaquille O'Neal to lead the Miami Heat to its first championship, has been named the 2006 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

    The former Marquette University star, in only his third professional season, paced the Heat's comeback from a 2-0 deficit against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. Miami won four consecutive games as the all-star guard took over the series, averaging 37.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to be named the Finals most valuable player.

    Wade, interviewed after the Heat's practice Monday at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles, said he was surprised to be named the award winner.

    "I was shocked," Wade said. "To be in the category of guys like Tiger Woods and Roger Federer, the top two guys mainly, and to come out and win that award (over) those two guys, I was thrilled and very excited. To me, it's all dedicated to my teammates for what we did last year in that incredible run to the Finals."

    Woods has won the Sports Illustrated honor twice, in 1996 and 2000.

    Wade became only the sixth NBA player to be honored with the prestigious award, and the youngest one at age 24.

    Other NBA players to receive the honor were: Bill Russell (1968), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1985, with the Los Angeles Lakers), Michael Jordan (1991) and Tim Duncan and David Robinson (2003).

    The Sportsman of the Year issue will be on newsstands Wednesday, and Wade is scheduled to receive his award, a sterling silver trophy crafted by Tiffany & Co., at a party in his honor on Dec. 14 in New York.

    "It was something until I heard I was named, I heard about it, but I didn't know too much about it," Wade said of the magazine honor. "I didn't know the significance of how many players made it."

    Wade said he was informed about a month ago that he would receive the award.</div>

    He's a great player, but I still say Kobe was robbed of that MVP award that Nash got.

    What the hell does that have to do with this thread? And why did you just post "who cares?" in the other thread?

    Post-padding ain't cool.

    Then you make a thread, double post, just so you can get two more posts? Come on man

    He's making stupid, irrelevant posts everywhere to pad his numbers, somebody stop this guy.

    Anyway, congrats to Wade. A pretty prestigious honor considering only one person in all of sports wins it each year.

    @XSV + Chuck:
    Instead of pointing him out and making unnecessary comments toward him, PM him and tell him what he has done wrong. You are no better than him when you do what you are currently doing.

    Congrats to Wade but what significance does this award hold?
