Hmmmm, I actually have a good counter to this. Richard Jefferson is black. Discuss. No joke, discuss him being of African heritage.

<div class="quote_poster">nextlevelgame Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">If he's being discriminated cause he's black, then I bet we would.</div> Are you being ignorant that African Americans are no longer being mistreated in America? You think you know anything about how people with darker skin are mistreated cause you shook someone's hand and had a superficial conversation with? But you're the type to ignore it right? It doesn't matter. You don't care, it happens and we're not supposed to care at all. Just keep on going with our lives. PEOPLE ARE BEING MISTREATED EVERYDAY. Ofcourse it shouldn't matter, BUT THAT'S NOT ENOUGH. YOU CAN'T JUST SIT THERE AND SAY THAT AND THEN EXPECT IT TO GO AWAY. NOTHING IS RESOLVED THAT WAY. Pathetic. I expected more out of today's elders. Btw for the record, no one on the Nets roster was being "discriminated" against for being bisexual.
Wow. Not only are you ignorant, but you're petty as well. Lazy too. But I have some time to kill and the Nets won tonight. Let me start by saying, if you make it college (and I pray to God you don't got my alma mater, Cornell), take a sociology class. Learn about society. Being gay in today's society is not the same as being black. Apples and orange comparison. Not even close. On one hand, being black, Asian, Hispanic, etc is SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. On the other hand, being a homosexual is NOT SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. And while all minorities are still feeling effects of racism, something in my opinion that will last forever, it is generally thought down upon in American culture. However, it's not the same for sexual orientation. People who protest gay marriages, gay adoptions, are still SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. Those people won't be critcized in society as much as outright racists. It's ok to hate gays, not ok to hate blacks, Asians, Hispanics, Arabics. Hell, there are government institutions that act against homosexuals and transgenders. Do you see the same for race? Nope. So you're far off. As for your Nets comment, no news has been further made, but let me tell you how I know an NBA player would be discriminated. You would've known this if you read my other post, which you ignored. Here are opinions of NBA players who are IN THE LOCKER: "You know what Jackie Robinson went through?" asked Malik Rose of the New York Knicks, referring to the abuse directed toward the first black player in Major League Baseball. "<u>That would pale in comparison to what the first openly gay athlete would face.</u> Nobody would want to play with him, play against him, be in the same locker room with him. And, The locker-room truth, as told by Richard Jefferson of the New Jersey Nets, is that athletes shower and dress in communal spaces and that many would feel uneasy about doing so in front of a gay teammate. The first openly gay male athlete will have to be a respected superstar, Jefferson said, likening it to Magic Johnson announcing that he had contracted the virus that causes AIDS. If there's an athlete thinking about coming out, Jefferson offered this how-to: "You would have to approach your teammates and be like, 'Look, this is who I am. I don't like any of you. I'm not trying to pick up on any of you,' " he said. <u>"Would it make people feel uncomfortable? Of course it would."</u> One by said Richard Jefferson. I underlined the sentences that prove to you that discrimination would appear. So, sit back son, and realize this: <u>SEXUAL ORIENTATION IS NOT THE SAME AS RACE. </u> Thank you and try again. I'd put up your little gif, but realize I'm too old to play the same games as little children.
<div class="quote_poster">nextlevelgame Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Not only are you ignorant, but you're petty as well. Lazy too. </div> lol i never knew we had a homosexual in the nets forums as well
Nextlevel is being ridiculous...calling his bisexuallity a "hotbed topic" and likening it to other "hotbed" sports topics such as steriods. My point is that a persons sexual preference is very trivial in the context of pro sports. It really has no effect on the outcome of anything. Sure it would turn some heads in a locker room, on tv, and in the public....but that is in reference to our own biasis. Would people talk about it, sure they would. Does it really matter, only if his teammates or coaches think differently of him. Its a trivial topic that seems more like gossip then anything.

They are gaining more and more ground in terms of legal marriages, more countries, states and provinces are recognizing that. Many countries INCLUDING THE US allow gay and lesbian couples to adopt....man what are you talking about. The only people opposing gay marriage and gay adoption are people who don't already have better things to worry about in their own lives. I think that you have been throwing the term ignorant around alot in your posts, when you say that it isn't socially accepted to be gay, you are showing with cristal clarity that you are a major ignoramis.

Not the same as social acceptance. Only a handful of states actually recognize same sex marriage while over half of the other states in US EXPLICITLY barr same sex marriage. So in over half the US, being gay is not socially acceptable as far as the governement go. But I'll say most of the US has homophobia. And being part of a state that recognizes homosexual marriages (well, kind of), I'll still say that in public if a man and another man were holding hands or kissing, the majority of the people around would be disgusted That's what I'm talking about. You wouldn't see the same if you saw me, an American minority, kissing my wife, who also happens to be minority. Your fellow colleague Raptors' fan (AirJordan's post) even laughed at the possiblity of a homosexual Nets fan. Would he laugh at me if I was black, white, or Asian? Maybe, but he wouldn't come out and say it, cause he'll be berated for being racist. Whereas if he's labled as a homophobe, it's not nearly as bad. Or how about the fact that he didn't even know homosexual basketball fans exist? I'd say that's a good indicator that there hasn't been social acceptance. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The only people opposing gay marriage and gay adoption are people who don't already have better things to worry about in their own lives.</div> I oppose those people, but that's just a random insult at the protestors. If you're saying that I'm ignorant, the only ignorance I'm guilty of is in assuming Franchise4ever is a moron based on his/her posts alone. I don't know him/her in real life. Could be a teenager like his profile indicates or could be a 62 year old with a keyboard.

There was a bunch of rumors that Tayshaun Price was gay, but he got married to a CHICK over the summer... It proves the tabloids and rumors don't mean anything...

Discrimination predicated on race cannot be taken in the same context as discrimination predicated on sexual orientation. I hope you understand the fundamental difference between the two. Discrimination is discrimination, yes, but the two cases are completely seperate. The only person I called ignorant was you. Assumptions and all that were made on your part the day you said you didn't read my posts and decided to comment on them assuming what I wrote. If anyone is combative and difficult, it is you.
